Help with LAN connectivity
Hi y'all,
I'm running a server computer with the Hauppauge PVR 250 board. My main goal in this question is to stream live video to other computers on my home LAN using the Sage software.... Thus far, I can send video using the SageTV application to another computer running the SageTV Client software, but only when inputting my IP address so that the video is sent via internet rather than LAN (I am assuming here based on Windows Media Encoder experience). This is unsatisfactory due to the time lag and interruptions. I have been unable to come up with a local name for my server that the client will accept as valid versus the IP address. Port numbers check, etc., but no luck in establishing a connection via LAN. Any ideas on why I have to use 123.456.7.8 as a format, over sage:6969? Many thanks guys |

Even if you use the IP number, you're still only using the LAN. It's not like it is going out on the Internet. There might be a certain format that the machine name needs to be in. I use the IP number so I don't worry about it. If you think it is slow make sure your switch/router & network cards are set for 100/Full. Sometimes when they are set to Auto they don't always connect at the fastest speed.

Ah, then I'm showing my ignorance, I suppose, by assuming that going by IP took me the long way home where a "local name" kept things between the walls here?
I appreciate the reply, I learned something and know where to begin tweaking now. Many thanks, Walter |
