Need help upgrading WHS SageTV

I'm sorry for the stupid question. I have been running SageTV on Win XP for several years. I know it fairly well.

I have just recently installed SageTV on my WHS server. I have the .22 beta on it now.

Since this installs as a add-in, how to I upgrade to .23? I am lost on how to upgrade the software in WHS.

Any help would be appreciated as I don't want to mess this up.

Thanks In Advance

Phil

Here's what I do. Copy the new version into the Add-ins directory. Go to the WHS console. I stop the Sage TV Service but I think the uninstall does the same. Go to Add-ins and uninstall SageTV. The console will close. Open the console again and go to the install tab. Choose the latest version to install. Done. If you use network resources (have another PC on the network that is an Import directory for Sage) then reconfigure the Sage service so that it uses your preferred User ID and password to start the service. (Use Sage's Service Control app or use Remote Desktop and go to the WHS Server Manager and go to Services.)

This is exactly what I have done and it works great. I know the documentation says you don't have to uninstall Sage, the installer is supposed to do that, however, it does not uninstall.

Thank you for the quick replies. I figured that was how you did it. Just wasn't sure.

I have SMM running. After I do the upgrade do I need to reinstall it? That would be a pain..

No need to reinstall SMM. Everything should remain intact and just work. Including other plugins. As always, shut down the SageTV service and copy your entire SageTV directory somewhere else as a backup. If something should go astray just copy that back over it with the service stopped.

Here is some great information I received from Gerry in the past when the .msi would not uninstall. I have had this happen to me twice and his method works perfectly to uninstall the older version.
PS I did have Sage completely shutdown both times this happened...

Here is what you need to do. Remote desktop to the WHS server. Make sure WHS console is closed.
Use regedit and find this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Home Server\RegisteredAdditions
Highlight one of the GUID folders in this folder. Example: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Home Server\RegisteredAdditions\{af7c95f5-de36-4703-84cb-abaa7dd71ded} (It may not be exactly this number.)
If you click on this folder in the right side pane you should see details about SageTV. (If you pick the wrong folder you will see details about other add-ins.)
Now delete that GUID number folder.
Now open WHS Console and then close it again to make sure any files were released.
Go to C:\Program Files\Windows Home Server and look for a .dll called HomeServerConsoleTab.SageTV.dll.
Delete the HomeServerConsoleTab.SageTV.dll.
Open the WHS console again and SageTV will be completely uninstalled and the SageTV tab no longer exists in the WHS Console.
At this point you could:
A. Reinstall SageTV 6.6 and call it a day.
or
B. Install the latest Beta of SageTV 7. It will install over the existing directory.

And of course you had already stopped the services and made a backup of your SageTV 6 install.

This may sound scary but it is simple and straight forward.
