Is the option to use Hulu exist in SagTVe when installed outside of the US? If so then simply using a VPN server from the US will do the trick (I do this for UK content but not in SageTV...)

There is a Hulu/playon plug-in for sage. It works to a point but the "hulu not available in your area" message shows up when I try to play a video.

There are various ones, some even free but less reliable just do a Google search. I use StrongVPN.com which has been good for the most part but sometimes it can be a bit slow. I had to set up OpenVPN on my router to get it to work with PlayON and the Sage plug-in. I can just run it on my computer locally to access hulu.com and watch from there. I also use it on my iPhone to listen to Pandora as well.

I am using StrongVPN as well. I have installed OpenVPN on my WHS (package was provided by StrongVPN) and start it as a service, thereby automatically connecting to StrongVPN whenever the WHS is running. I didn't have to install anything on my router (though I guess if you can do that you would also be able to use it with other devices that don't go through the WHS).

I then connect to Hulu through PlayOn/the PlayOn plugin. Works very well, however sometimes the VPN connection from Tokyo to San Francisco could be a bit faster.

Cheers,
teq

Looks interesting. Is it purely streaming, or does sage record/save the programs locally?

I use StrongVPN also. I'm in Asia and find the connection to be a bit slow (1.8mbit vs my 8mbit connection), but it works okay. Might change providers at some point. I can watch netflix on my wii and use playon for sage, although i find playon to be a bit painful. I run the PPTP connection on my router using the DD WRT firmware so that all machines in the house can utilize the connection. There are good instructions on the web for how to do this.

rickgillyon: the VPN connection just gives you a US IP. Beyond that, everything works as it would if you were actually in the US.
