Will this configuration work?
Hopefully this is the correct thread …
I *think* I have a general grasp on what I need but would like some of you to review to make sure what I want to do is possible and feasible. I currently have AT&T Uverse for TV, Windows Home Server and a PlayOn subscription. I’m thinking on building a Windows 7 HTPC, install Sage and Playon and hook my TV directly to the HTPC. Purchase 2 HD-PVR’s and put those behind 2 Uverse boxes with an IR blaster type device (USB-UIRT). So, when I turn the TV on, I’ll get the Sage UI, from there I would be able to access anything on the Windows Home Server (ISO’s, Photo’s and Music), able to view live TV which the IR Blaster(s) would change the channels on the Uverse devices, record anything and of course automatically skip commercials for recorded content. I would be able to stream most content including Netflix via Playon. The network diagram is attached and basically the top left of the page would be new hardware. http://www.flickr.com/photos/jroryl/5073256699/ Last edited by jroryl; 10-11-2010 at 08:53 PM. |

My only recommendation would be to skip building the Win 7 PC and purchase a HD300 extender. Connect that to the TV. It's $150 and video processing is done in hardware. Less trouble and better picture than messing with a PC. License for Sage is built into the extender. Check the Sage store for any bundle deals of Sage Media Center software and an extender.

Thanks for the reply ...
I thought about that route but can the HD300 control both HD-PVR's? or does the HD300 control both STB's? I also have read it wasn't a good idea to "record" directly to the WHS, I notice you have a WHS, any problems recording directly too the pool? or do you record to a non pooled drive? |

The Sage Server controls the HD-PVRs and IR blasters that control the setboxes. The HD300 just sends commands to the Sage server.
