Question Use external drive with HD300?

If I'm going on travel, can I just take a USB external drive with me, plug it into the HD300, and be good to go?

AKA, can the HD300 directly read a USB drive, or does it need to be attached to a PC? I see

External storage devices, many USB keyboards, and certain USB wireless adapters can be atatched to the USB2 ports.
So I think the answer is "yes", just want to make sure i'm not mis-understanding the post.

Just plug in the drive, add Media Import directories or browse to the drive and play the media in standalone mode.

I moved this out of the questions to be added to the HD300 FAQ because it is already in the FAQ and manual, which both say that external storage devices can be attached to the extender's USB ports. I'm probably too close to it to see what's missing, so if something needs clarification, let me know.

I guess I should ask others if they think the wording is clear. Seemed to require a mental leap of faith that "external storage devices...can be attached to USB ports" means "in Standalone mode, you can directly play back shows/movies/music on an external drive that's directly attached".

Then again, for the past 9 months i've barely touched my HTPC/HAPC as i've been doing soccer 5+ times/week, I only actually read the forums every 2 weeks, so i'm the opposite of "too close to it". It takes me several mins of reading any given SageTV/CQC/AVSForum thread to remember what the hell the poster is even talking about.
