Regarding plug-ins, I did a clean install, totally wiped my previous installation.
So, unless there are some plug-ins installed by default, that wouldn't be it for me. Also, a key thing for me is that it works *fine* if I run the regular program. I only experience the extremely slow response on menus when activating the service and running SageTV after that. I'll submit a bug report tonight (assuming I can find the time to fill out all the fields in the form, takes quite a long time). Last edited by aperry; 09-17-2010 at 11:42 AM. |

I do hope your kidding...Sage's bug process is pretty easy and if you are going to say something is wrong then it is only fair to give them the chance to fix it.

No, I'm not kidding. Because of the slowness of the interface, it'll take me about 5 minutes to navigate to where I need to get the information requested on the form. Plus, there's a lot of info requested there, and it's not always clear what they're looking for (like list all additional hardware, I really don't know what's applicable for them there).

Update on my situation. The problem is not with SMM, however, is was with My Movies Collection Manager on the server. Seems that it's using about 50% of the processor. When comskip is active the system is pegged at 100% and that is slowing down the HD200. I disabled MyMovies and that seemed to help but I still need to re-enable it to verify that this is causing my problem. I also installed a plugin to show CPU usage in sage so I can monitor it.

Debug Logging, 7.0.16 and did you apply the SageTV.jar fix?
I saw this thread while trying to troubleshoot my own problems with 7.0.16.
I did a full reload due to hardware failure, and ended up using a fresh 7.0.16 install. I had a day worth of problem before the fixed SageTV.Jar file was posted. During my troubleshooting, I turned on debug logging in detailed setup. In my previous configuration, I had this running by default because I had fast enough hardware to handle it. (Save the reading, turn it off and see if that fixes it). There was a cascade-sort-of-effect. My two core system was at 100%. I disabled Microsoft Security Essentials "Real-time scan" since I have my SageTV box isolated and protected in other ways. That brought it all down to around 60% with the SageTV.exe process being the culprit. I noticed huge debug logs and discovered that every few hundred miliseconds a java.lang.NullPointerException was being logged with several lines of details (this was the error that was causing SageTV to crash at launch prior to the sagetv.jar fix). I disabled debug logging and Sage ran at around 2-7% CPU at idle. My two HD200s, my HD300 and my PlaceShifter no longer lag (The HD200s lag, but no more than expected with the new UI and plug-ins ... it's completely tolerable ... the HD300 is perfect). I now have the myriad of plugins (Comskip, Phoenix, Web/BMT/sagex, tweedler, and a few others) running without issue. Hope this helps. Any other fixes appreciated. |

To possibly help out some others, this problem is fixed now.
On suggestion from the SageTV support, I turned on 3D acceleration in detailed setup. It was enabled in "normal" mode, but when running SageTV as a service, that interface was running with it disabled. |

Just wanted to add another vote for Laggy performance since 7.0.16 on extenders. Both HD200 and HD300 are slow, jerky and stuttery when moving around in the UI. Video plays fine, just the UI is laggy. I would try some logging, but I am not sure where I need to log. DO I need to turn logging on on the server and the HD300? FYI I only use the HD300 as an extender.

phew! I thought it was just me and my new server hardware/config, my menus are slow and laggy as well, video plays fine.
Plugins: comskip smm ortus trailers I thought maybe it was my six core processor so I fiddled with affinity, then I moved on to network congestion, ruled that out, then disk performance, then java issues with the heap, disabled comskip, nothing seemed to be a sure fix and its still slow.

Not sure if this will help other or not but I noticed on my Windows 7 64Bit when I added a 4 GB USB drive as readyboost memory my extenders have been performing much better. My theory is that all the files that need to be fed to the extenders are in a much faster access location but I thought I'd share my results.
4 GB is the max the OS allows per USB device. |

Well I turned off all my plugins except commercial detector/comskip because I already tried turning that off and I realized I'd rather have slow menus and comskip than fast menus and no comskip. No change, still slow/choppy. Now that the fall TV schedule has blown up I dont think I will mess with it...

Probably shouldn't dig up an old thread now that we are RC2 .18 but I thought I should share the source of my laggy menus was a network share/location that used to exist on the network was removed and I'm guessing sage was trying to connect to it when my menus went wonky. Now that my homeserver is on the mend all menus on all clients are just fine with all plugins enabled.
