Interface is VERY Slow with V7.0.16 [RESOLVED]

When navigating SageTV, it takes anywhere from 2-3 seconds up to a minute or more to respond as I try and navigate the system.

I thought it might be my video library being too large, but I have 121 videos in one of my subfolders and 4369 in the other. If it matters, the vast majority of these are encoded using xvid.

Any suggestions as to where I could start trying to speed things up?

I want to upgrade, but can't justify paying money for this new version if the performance is going to be so bad.

NOTE: I am using the SageTV Service on my HTPC. When I disable that and use the "main" interface, the performance seems okay.

Yup. I have this too with latest beta firmware on HD200 and 7.0.16.
4-8 seconds black screen between pressing start and the video starting, and the same again when pressing stop and the menu coming back.

Anyone else?

7.016 Beta sluggishness oon extenders?

I've seen a few mentions of this, has anyone found any workarounds, or is it best to downgrade?

Thumbs down

No solution from me - just wanted to let you know that I too have this problem. I initially thought that SMM plugin was causing issues but these problems are widespread, not just with movies listings. Navigation delay is about .5 to 1 second and changing menus will give the the "spinning wheel" for as much as 5-7 seconds. The wife has been very patient so far but eventually she's gonna lose it. Hope the next release improves things a bit.

We don't have any data yet to indicate this is a problem with 7.0.16 itself; it very well may be due to some new plugin release that came out around the same time. Definitely try disabling all the plugins you have installed and see if that affects the behavior.

In some of our testing, we had installed the Ortus-Trailers plugin and saw major CPU usage related to that plugin...but after 20 minutes or so it subsided and didn't happen again.

Feel free to submit a bug report on this if you're having the problem so we can get more data: http://sagetv.com/bugs.html

Please let me know if it is my plugin I haven't noticed any issues on smm. The only time I could see it slowing things down is if you have sage automatic import running too often.

Do you happen to have the sage log and the logs from the logs directory under sage for when that occurred? I haven't seen that and would like to track that issue down.

Thanks,
Jeff

Those of us with issues should list all plugins here, and see if anything is common. I'd be guessing right now, so I'll do it later from home.

No, I don't have them anymore. It only happened for about 20 minutes after the first time I installed it; but I do a lot of weird things on my development system, so it very well could have been related to something else that was going on. If it happens again I'll let you know.

I'm noticing this as well. Sluggish going to different menu items/tv recordings/etc. Black screen stays up a while before starting/stopping video. Thought it was something with my set up. Hopefully someone can fix this.

Are any of you running SMM? It can delay the videos a bit when stopping but only when they are played from the SMM interface and you have auto mark as watched set.

Seeing the same sluggish response on an HD-100 with 7.0.16. Powering the HD-100 off/on seems to cure it for a while.

Seeing it here too...interface is slow since upgrading the HD200 and SageTV to latest.

I've noticed the same problem, only since upgrading to the latest HD200 Beta firmware and Sage .16. I do run Ortus Trailers plugin though.

Will try disabling all plugins and see if it makes a diff...

If any of you want to submit a bug report on this, that'd be a good idea. We can easily get logs to determine where slow downs of this nature are coming from. So far we have no bug reports of this; and it's definitely a minority of users experiencing it so it's likely related to using some specific set of plugins or some other configuration issue.

This sounds like my delay could be related to this as well, for which I started this thread. Here are the only plugins that I am running:

-Jetty Web Server
-Metadata Tools for SageTV - Web Interface
-Phoenix Core Services
-SageTV H2 Database
-SageTV Web Interface

The interesting thing for me is that the slowdown is only evident on 1 of my 2 HD200's. Let's hope this gets fixed in the next beta.

One thing I noticed, is that I am using HDMI through an AV receiver. It seems that it could be a delay in the switching/handshaking ?

I say this, as the HD200 upstairs is quick as ever, but the one in the main room has slowed down.

Whats everyone else's configuration?

Yeah, significant slow down w/ this beta cycle for me too. Lots of spinning circles of doom. However, I have a ton of plugins installed so I haven't had time (Read:TV has not been free) to disable them all and troubleshoot.

So it looks like its not directly related to the Ortus Trailers plugin as someone has at last posted their installed plugins and thats not one of them...... phew.

I'm not experiencing any of these issue's and I use 2 HD200's, one via HDMI and the other Component.

If you guys want this fixed then your going to have to supply Sage with some logs instead of posting endless replies in this thread. If you are affected then you also want to remove all plugins so you can rule them out.

Cheers

Ben
