This would happen if it is an unsupported file type (Sage can't handle .psd and some other image types) or if the file location can't be resolved. The tags and thumbnails are stored in the database so can always be retrieved. Make sure your files are on a network drive instead of a local drive and can be reached from your server and client.

It appears it is because I have upgraded to PSE9. Ugh, should have asked first before upgrading. It can still read the data file, but just won't open any photos from it. I set my catalog to my old backup and the files open fine.

If you can, create a new catalog with just a few pictures in it and post/attach it here. I will take a look and try to figure out what has changed since v8. Thanks.

I have attached a version 9 psedb file. Just remove the .zip off the filename.
Attached Files
File Type: zip catalog.pse9db.zip (122.0 KB, 156 views)

It looks like they changed how the file paths are stored in the database. I will try to provide a fix in a little bit.

Please try the attached file (close down Sage and unzip to the Sage JAR folder) and let me know if it fixes the v9 file paths. Thanks.

I just submitted the 1.2 update which addresses the PSE9 file paths. I also added a simple Details screen (accessible through slideshow menu) which will allow you to see the full file path and some other details of the current file.

How to go about loading catalog

I have my catalog backed up to my Windows home server but I work off of my C drive on my Windows 7 machine. How do I go about directing this plug-in? Do I have to map a drive to my main machine or will the plug-in read the backup on the Windows home server? Should I just move everything over to the Windows home server?

TIA

The PSE catalog/database can be read from anywhere but the actual media files (photos & videos) need to be accessible at the same location as specified in the catalog for the PC running Sage. So, they would need to be on a network drive when they are imported into PSE or copied to the same local drive on your Sage server while maintaining the same directory structure.

Re should you move everything to the WHS: Do you now, or might you in the future have more than one location (Client PC,or Extender) that you access the media? If the answer is yes then I think the logical place for the media and catalog to be stored is the server.

We have our catalog and all media on the WHS. It is viewable from our client and either extender. Has sure worked well for us! This of course applies not just to photos but to audio, video and TV.

I will have to figure out how to move everything over. I mapped a drive to the folder where my catalog is on my main PC and pointed the Sage software to that from the server which worked (for the server software anyway) BUT the extenders do not see the mapped drive so I'm not sure what to do at this point... (seems ridiculous).

Don't the extenders just read the information from the server as to the location of things?

Thanks for the tips guys.

I'm not sure what is going on with extenders and network drives - I've had erratic problems with this myself. In any case, in the directory (catalog) browser on the extender you can try selecting "Specify..." and key in your mapped drive name (e.g. "m:\") and then hopefully you can browse from there. Otherwise, you can manually edit the extender .Properties files to specify the same catalog location as in the server SageClient.Properties (copy "pse/catalogfile" entry). If you need to do this manually and need more specifics let me know.

Did change the manual entry for the extender in the properties file but the plug-in heading where they catalog should be found is blank and when I enter it it just says that Y:\is an invalid directory.

Can you access the directory through the network path instead of the mapped drive?

When I go to "network" it still says "invalid directory"

Sorry, I guess you will have to copy the catalog files to a local drive on the server until you can resolve the network issues for the extender.

NOt playing slide show

Craig, I have a media PC (HTPC) with Sage running on a Microsoft home network. I installed your plugin and attached my Elements catalog that's on another PC so I mapped a network drive to include the PSE catalog. The photographs are also on the other PC and I have a mapped network drive added to the My Photos Directory on my media PC. Everything has share enabled. I can show thumbs and sort by tags etc but when I try to play a slide show I get a black screen. If I look at the menu I can get the details of the photo but I assume this is in the catalog. I assume that this is because the pointers in the catalog point to the photo files on the other PC. I tried everything I know (not much) but couldn't figure out how to correct this so I tried removing the plugin. Now the photo section of Sage still shows your plugin and I cannot get rid of it.
Any ideas as to how to correct either of these problems? Ideally I would like to use your plugin because it is really cool.
Thanks in advance
Tony
