no 5.1 surround
I have now had Sage V2 working for a few days and I have just tested out a DVD.
The problem is that it is not outputting Dolby 5.1! I know for sure that the DVD is 5.1 encoded (it even says in sage). I also used the same DVD in showshifter when I had that installed and it worked fine. Having played with the audio settings in Sage for a while, I have come to the conclusion that they don't do anything!! The audio sounds the same on any setting (my surround amp also visually lets you know what signal it is getting ie ProLogic or 5.1) I am using the Coax out of my Mobo's soundcard (realtek'97 driver). Any help would be superb Cheers guys/gals ![]() |

Which decoders are you using? It is possible to get 5.1 output, I do it all the time.

I am just using default decoders, but changing them doesn't seem to make any differance.
As I said; I am using myMotherboards Audio out (Realtek'97 Chipset). This did work for 5.1 in showshifter, so I know that the system can output 5.1 what are you using as your decoder etc? |

Well the default decoder is definitely not going to do it
it is hauppauge intervideo decoder which does stereo only I am pretty sure that is default ??? Well I would look at trying a different audio decoder and you will have to set it up for 5.1 outside of SageTV in the DVD program that you choose for decodeing audio in SageTV I would watch a DVD see where it was easiest to recognize the surround 5.1 and then watch the same part of the movie in SageTV and first though use the same decoder that used to watch it before watch it in WinDVD then in SageTV watch the DVD with intervideo decoder for audio there may be a registry change you may need to do but it will depend on the decoder you want to use to watch DVDs in SageTV Robert |

I hae tried playing the DVD in PowerDVD which works fine.
I then tried using the cyberlink audio codec in sage (which I presume will be the same thing used in Power DVD) but again- no 5.1?!?! |

How I finally got 5.1 sound to work!
I went through a series of similar frustrations and with about the same symptoms. PowerDVD was fine and routed 5.1 sound from DVDs out the motherboard S/PDIF connectors to my amplifier. I tried all combinations of renderers and decoders and nothing seemed to help with Sage and DVD audio, it was always just 2 channel stereo (but still did come out the S/PDF port).
I finally found a Registry entry for the Sonic decoder that solved the problem: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sonic\CineMaster DS DVD\2.5\AudioDecoder\AC3SPDIFEnabled When I changed this entry from 0x...0 to 0x...1 then the 5.1 signal miraculously came alive. If you are using a different decoder it might have a similar registry entry? All this is with Sage 1.4 and the DVD audio decoder set to use "Sonic Cinemaster@ DS Audio Decoder" and the renderer set to "DiretSound: NVIDIA(R)nForce (TM)_Audio." I am using an Asus A7N8X-VM motherboard and Win XP Pro. Hope this is some help, Lynn Last edited by ellweber; 05-02-2004 at 08:47 PM. |

Yeah, Sonic Cineplayer and nVDVD are by far the nicest decoders in that the setting you choose in the app, stick when just using the filters (like in SageTV).

I have had a look in the reg but couldn't find any referance to the audio side of things under Power DVD.
do you know if there are any free codecs that can be downloaded? I don't really want to buy the Sonic software just for the codec. |

AC3 filter
http://ac3filter.sourceforge.net/#download free but you have to set it up to default decoder I never really used it that much |

I still can't get the thing working!
I tried installing the Sonic Cinemaster codec, however Sage does not see the new codec. Is there anything that you have to do to install the codec specifically to sage? As I said before, Cyberlink Power DVD plays 5.1 fine. When I select the Cyberlink Audio decoder in advanced setup nothing changes. My Sony amp displays visually on the LCD what type of input it is getting. Anything that plays out of Sage is in 'Pro Logic' format (Power DVD is 5.1) Any more help from you guys would be great! ![]() |

Unfortunately the Sonic filters won't work in anything but Cineplayer unless you have it registered. Oh, did you restart Sage after intalling Sonic?
One thing you could try is to check the filter properties outside of PowerDVD, you can do that in either Zoomplayer or Graphedit. |

I just installed Zoomplayer to check my audio options as you said Stanger89.
I get the same thing as with Sage - only prologic output! Strange. I have tried all the settings within Zoomplayer to try to get it coming out as 5.1, but to no avail. I think I am going to try to sort something out with WinDVD codecs |

Ok, Finally - problem solved.
I installed WinDVD which placed new intervideo codecs in Sage. Choosing this new codec as the DVD codec made everything work a dream. Cheers for the help guys/gals. |

ukm -
Does playing NON-5.1 encoded discs play alright also? Thanks, Rob |

I'm kind of amazed you got WinDVD working (easilly at least) it's filters are notorious for not playing well in apps other than WinDVD. But, glad you got it working.

I got Win DVD working as well, but could never get the 5.1 output.
I finally DID get 5.1 using AC3Filter, but then it wouldn't output normal stereo tracks. Such as, for example, from a DVD of a show I recorded with sage earlier! So I would love to hear anyone who's got both audio formats covered... |

I just tried playing 'Reservoir Dogs' (the film is encoded in stero not 5.1) and it seems to play fine just outputting the stereo signal
