Issues with DVD subs in and MKV file...

I can't play MKV files in the the extender if I have DVD subtiles in the container.
If I have the PGS subtiles from the blu-ray extract, then they play fine.

I thought I was having trouble with the PGS subtitles in server so I was looking for a way to do DVD (idx/sub) subtitles in the MKV file. It turns out I can't play any mkv files on the server... but that's a different thread!

When I try to enable the DVD subtitles the machine nearly hangs and I end up having to pull the plug (literally) to get the hd200 to respond again.

I have the latest beta.

Any thoughts? Or is this a bug...

Jim

I'm having this issue as well. HD200 with latest beta firmware and Sagetv 7. I've started experimenting w/ ripping my DVDs to .mkv using Handbrake and they play fine until I enable subtitles, at which point the extender hangs (well, everything except audio) and I have to pull the power to reset. It's not a problem w/ the rip since the files play fine w/ subs in VLC.

Have you tried using MakeMKV to rip the DVDs? Just because something plays in VLC doesn't mean it was encoded properly. VLC is a lot more forgiving than other players/devices.

I can't use Make MKV directly because I need to provide an AC3 track.
It seems like others are having this issue as well..

I tried Make MKV and it worked however as far as I can tell it doesn't recode and I'm looking for an all-in-one solution, so I gave StaxRip a try and it worked as well. Subs functioned fine and I was able to recode the video and pass through the AC3 which is what I wanted. I guess the problem was caused by the way Handbrake muxed the subs.

I will have to check out StaxRip. I too am looking for a 1 step process.. Right now I do

1. Make MKV to rip blu-ray to hard drive.
2. Clowbd or AEAC to recode the audio to AC3 448.
3. MKVMerge Gui to put it all back together in MKV.

I'll have to try the DVDFab Passkey with StaxRip.
