Connection has been lost to service
Recently, I was trying to get my new DTV box to change channels and was turning the service on and off a lot to get the .ir file to work.
I've been running Sage v. 5 fine for years, but now I'm getting a message that the connection to the service has been lost... every time i reboot. Also, Service won't start. Says it is starting but never does, so I am totally down. I reinstalled Sage and got the latest JRE installed after uninstalling all previous versions. Still get the same problem. Checked the Sage TV/Sage TV program directory and found scores of files with names like this: hs_err_pid4988.log - contents given below. Any suggestions on problem or where to start diagnosis? THanks, Marty hs_err_pid4988.log - contents: Code:

I have no idea if the solution to my issue will help; but I had similar problems to what you described. For example, I could not start the Server even though it appeared among the installed services. My problem was caused by my installing Sage to a non-"Program Files" directory. I had hoped to avoid UAC-related issues. Instead, the numerous security measures (even beyond UAC, since turning UAC off did not help) interferred with Sage in various ways that I do not understand. My solution was to re-install Sage, letting it install to the default location. The Service and Firewire tuning (it was also broken) worked after the re-installation. In your case, with XP, my thought is that your problem might be related to new security measures in a Windows update. This is probably not the case if you have installed Sage to the default "C:\Program Files" directory.
Although this is probably unrelated, I also had a problem with losing connection to the server. This would happen immediately whenever I tried to view (or tune) TV from either of my HVR2250 digital tuners. The fix was to install a special TSSplitter.ax supplied by Sage support in response to others who had the same or similar problem. Try search if you want to follow-up on this.
