The 2+ Second Channel Change Delay Fix
Hi everyone:
Thought I would share this with anyone who might want to know this. Some of you are aware that I was not pleased with a 2+ second delay before Sage would issue a channel change sequence to the USB-UIRT. This only applys if you are using Sage to directly control your STB via USB-UIRT and not if you are using Girder to do the relaying. Even with the "Channel Change" delay parameter set to 10 msec., the 2+ second delay would persist. Frey finally advised that I could remedy this by setting "irtune_global_preroll = 0" in the Sage.Properties file. The value as found was 2000 msec. After setting to "0" .... EUREKA! Relaying of channel change sequence is near immediate. It's great. This is also only for those who do much "Live TV" viewing and surfing which many do not and is a non-issue. As always, make the edit while Sage is closed (not running); not just asleep. DFA

You have no idea!! It had become a make or break deal with my better half.
I was about to move it all over to Girder to let it do the blasting as quite a few people are doing anyway but decided to run it by Frey one more time. DFA

I would be careful with that. It may be a different story with your device, but when I set the preroll to less than 500 msec for my Actisys IR200L, I sometimes get missed IR signals to my sat receiver, yielding incorrect channel changes.

Thanks for the heads up but after about +100 channel changes by now I think I'm safe. I also have inter-channel number spacing at 10 msec (have so for a long time) so everything comes fast but no problems at all. This for USB-UIRT and STB is Scientific Atlanta 3100HD.
However, if the USB-UIRT is not orientated correctly, I can miss a beat no matter what the timings but this is a different issue and not to be confused with speed. As it is now, I could not be more pleased other than have an STB with a serial link. DFA
