Angry Fresh install but keep recordings

Hi,

I've put 7.0.12 on my SageTVClient and SageTVServer and it is now totally broken. Firstly, the client started to crash on "some" channel. Now the whole thing is stuffed and the server will not even start. When I start the server I just get a window that is totally black, so client can't connect.

I have done a total wipe of client and re-installed. But don't want to do this on server as I'll loose my recordings? I know the files will be there but sage will loose them from the Recordings view (been there before!).

How do I wipe existing version clear and clean install, but keep my recordings?

Save the wiz.bin. All recording info is stored there (a long with a ton of other stuff).

Look for a wiz.bak. Is it any larger? Rename and use.

Do you have a backup of the wiz.bin from before the upgrade? You will loose anything recorded since but better than nothing.

i am in a similar situation..i am migrating my sagetv server from a Windows 7 Pc to WHS...wanted to know if i transfer all my recordings from drives D and E on the Win 7 machine to a Recorded TV share on my new WHS install, copying over wiz.bin, will it automatically recognize my recordings once i direct sagetv server to use the Recorded TV share as the default recording drive??? even thought the location is not longer "D" drive and "E" drive where the files were originally recorded to?

Eric, yes.

I did this this weekend from an XP system to a Win7 system, exactly the same way. On top of bringing in the recordings I also manually edited all the properties files so that I could also bring in all the prefs and install Sage itself to a completely different path.

The meta-data for all the shows should be attached to the files themselves, so that will import when you move the files. The wiz.bin will contain all the "watched" etc. status.

I did a fresh install over the weekend as well.
All my recordings are on different drives/directories.
So all I did was:
- Shut down SageTv
- Copy SageTv directory
- Uninstall SageTv
- Install fresh 7.0.12 SageTv
- Copy wiz.bin, wiz.bak and sage.properties over to newly created SageTv directory.

Everything picked up exactly where it was before the fresh install, but without all the detritus of the old SageTv and SageMC installs.
