no playback of H.264 video in mp4 container

I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced an issue like this before I submit a bug.

I started using mediashrink to convert my mpeg2 content (other than dvds) into h.264 with an mp4 wrapper.

I'm using the EVR renderer, with CoreAVC as the H.264 decoder and Sage MPEG decoder for MPEG2 content.

When I try to playback said mp4 file, nothing plays, no audio, no video, although the seek bar says its playing.

If I switch the "Media Player for non-MPEG files" setting to SageTV player, rather than DirectShow, these files playback just fine. But using DirectShow they do not. . . (I also suspect that the SageTV player is going to consume a lot more CPU. . .although I don't really know that, just a hunch, but it does turn Aero off which sux).

Since everything else plays back just fine. . . I suspect this is a bug. . .after all the mp4 is just a container. I should also note that the same files in Windows Media player also play back just fine and with low CPU usage.

I also tried changing my H.264 and MPEG decoders to use the Microsoft codecs, since I'm using Windows 7 64bit, but to no avail.

Thoughts. . . ?

It's kind of strange that you need haali for this. I have a bunch of mp4 files, which are basically hd pvr recordings converted to mp4 (not re-encoded), which playback with the dshow player without problems. While I do have haali installed, I checked that it's not loaded for this type of playback. I'm using the native MC Video decoder and MPC audio decoder.
Did you check your logs when you had the playback problems?

Yeah i didn't see anything odd in the logs at all. . .it looked like it thought it was playing it just fine. . . so weird. . . It could be something weird with the installer for coreavc i guess, or maybe I just needed to re-install, but it doesn't look like they've had any updates for a while.

I totally submitted a bug to sage as well. . . oops. . .
