HD200 stutters/freezes then fast forwards
Guys,
Running the v7 beta here, also saw this on v6. Video/movies shared on a windows server played directly from the HD200 play perfectly, however when playing through the server connection they constantly freeze, then fast forward with no audio until caught up with what I assume the timing should be, and then it plays back fine for a little while, and then repeats. Seems to happen more on video files that I've resumed from watching previously vs. starting at the beginning. Also happens on DVD rips so I'm pretty sure it's not a case of the video being too much for the HD200 to handle (especially given the fact that it plays it all flawlessly when played directly from the HD200 interface). Any thoughts? The only thing I have yet to try is copy the video files directly to the sage server and try playing them from there, I may give that a shot and see if it makes a difference. The DVD movies do stutter though and they are directly connected on USB hard drives so I don't think it will matter. Tom |

Ok so it DOES make a difference if the movie file is on the C drive of the sage server vs. on the windows server share. When the file is on the sage server HDD it's not stuttering at all so far, where it's unwatchable playing from the server. I copied a file from the windows server to the sage server so I can do a side by side comparison. It wasn't like this before, not sure what changed here but I think it's v7. This is very strange behavior. Anyone have any ideas?

Ok now I'm seeing issues with recordings from the HDHomerun. Oddly enough, the HD PVR recordings seem fine, but with the HDHomerun anything I play starts playing in slow fast forward with no audio and then after maybe 10 or 15 seconds seems to sync up and play normally. If I skip forward it does the same thing again though. I'm trying a defrag of my sagetv recording drive but after that I'm out of ideas. I haven't changed ANYTHING on this setup since I moved to the beta so I'm at a loss as to why this is suddenly happening...

I've been having this issue with my HDHR ever since i bought it a couple of months ago. I only see the problem on recordings made via the HDHR. Video files and ripped Blu Rays play just fine. And i am still on V6.
I am suspecting it's either my router not being able to handle the bandwidth or it's the hard drives that are not fast enough. What i don't get is why it would be a problem with recordings but not video files. |

Something very wrong is going on here. My HD200 will NOT play back anything recorded from the HDHomeRun now, it does the goofy fast forward no audio thing and this includes videos I recorded a long time ago and they all played back just fine only a few days ago. Also I tried playing back the same video from the client loaded on my laptop and they play back FINE so it must be something with the HD200, NOT the backend, disk, etc. This is VERY irritating! Wife Acceptance Factor has taken a serious tumble!

When all else fails...
So the ONLY thing I hadn't tried was to UNPLUG the HD200 and plug it back in again! I just did that and miracle of miracles everything is working again. This is maddening but if it's that simple to fix I guess I can't complain. I think something gets goofy with these HD200's over time, and when you turn them off with the remote, they don't turn OFF, just kinda go into sleep or whatever. DVD's still do the weird stutter thing though so that's still an outstanding issue, but I'm back in business!

Still doing it from share though
So the playback of the HDHR recordings is fine now, but playing back media that was downloaded and stored on my windows server still has horrible performance. Playing it back from the HD200 in standalone mode works fine however, and copying the file to the sage server plays back fine as well. This is frustrating but I'll have to hope someone has an idea.

I'm seeing this with hd .iso playback thru the sage server to an unraid server to an hd200. I'll try to go direct.

Try direct, I bet you it works flawlessly. I've been getting emails from Sage support, they are having me try some different things, hopefully we'll get them on the case and get this fixed...

This is unbelievable!!!
So I've been working with Sage Support, and they had me turn on media center debugging, and LO AND BEHOLD JUST TURNING THAT ON MAKES IT WORK. How strange that just turning that one setting on makes it work, and worse still I can't generate a log for them, but at least it works!
