Hybrid crossfire?

I'm getting ready to upgrade my system. I'm going from a 4850e x2 to a athlonII x4 and adding a hd3450 to a 780g motherboard. This is my server in the basement that does get some occasional use watching shows. My question is there any benefits to running the onboard video and 3450 in hybrid crossfire mode?

Will it use less power when video is not in use?

We currently watch sd programing right now, but I'm getting ready for hd. I noticed my system was struggling when watching hd downstairs with playon running on the client system in the living room. I also have a couple mvps so I thought the extra cpu power would help with the transcoding.

I don't believe you are going to get any playback advantages going Hybrid Crossfire. Most dual graphics card setups only aid in gaming, but not in video playback. You would be better off adding something like a 4550/4570 card and just forget about using the onboard video. I tried the same thing with my 780G system and it was just not good enough for anything High Def interlaced. Seemed to do fine on progressive recordings....

Thanks, I will disable onboard video and go with a video card.
