Error running BMT
So I upgraded to SageTV 7 and everything seemed to run real well. I run the jar clean up tool (and I have to admit I didn't try BMT prior to running the tool) and now when I go to the web interface I get :
Problem accessing /bmt/. Reason: SERVICE_UNAVAILABLE Any ideas here? Looks like Jetty is running ok. Thanks! Neil |

When you say "upgraded" do you mean that you you upgraded to Sage7 and then installed the BMT plugin from the plugin repository? or did you just upgrade Sage7?

Upgraded my install of Sage to 7 while BMT was installed. Do I need to reinstall? In our previous offline conversations I thought I only had to run the clean up script?

There may have been some confusion there. What I meant to convey was that after you upgraded sagetv and then reinstalled BMT from the plugin system, then you need to run the Clean Jars tool in order to clean out the old bmt and related jar files. But yes, after you upgrade to S7, you need to install bmt using the plugin system. You should install all of your old plugins using the new plugin system, if they are there. If you start mixing and matching old style plugins with the new style plugins, you'll no doubt introduce and extra layer of headaches

Ok so lets take a small step back if you will. I upgraded with all my plugins installed. What do I do now? Is it "safe" to install the plugin for BMT now? I just don't want to screw something up. I see my web server app installed in jetty still works properly and I am still using sageMC on my clients without incident.
Thanks! Neil |

You are free to install BMT and/or the BMT web ui. If you have the Jetty plugin installed, then that will no be re-installed, since the Sage7 plugin system will already detect that. The Sage7 plugin system is very nicely done and it's build around dependencies which means that you'll have fewer collisions betweens plugins where plugin A installs and causes plugin B to stop working because plugin A overwrites some jar that plugin B required. So, in a nut shell, you should be safe to install bmt.... and if causes an issue, you can easily remove it from the plugin system as well.
btw... when we first spoke, it never crossed my mind that someone would upgrade to sage7 and not use the plugin manager to install/upgrade all their plugins.

I didn't mean to be confusing but I never installed any plugins post upgrade. Am I to assume that previously installed plugins weren't upgraded from 6 to 7? I don't think this is true. I mean lets back up a second plugins is such a generic term prior to 7. In 6 I ran BMT with the web interface, SageMC, Comskip. nielms web server, and Jetty of course. nielms web server and jetty aren't really plugins so much as they are stand alone. When I upgraded to 7 nielms and jetty continue to run. I ran the clean up script and I thought the BMT web interface was working prior to the clean up. SageMC wasn't reinstalled. So here I am and I installed the plug ins for BMT and BMT web with the proper plug in system. Jetty continues to work but I don't know if I should install it with the plugin system. nielms continues to work and so does sagemc. I don't think the directions for upgrading with plugins is very clear or how users should proceed...
I am experimenting and hoping I don't crap something up too much! |

When you upgrade to 7 most if, if not all of your existing add-ons, will continute to work... but only because they existed before the upgrade. If you continue to use your system in that way, then you will not get updates when there are updates for those add-ons in the Sage7 plugin system.
Later, when you want to try out some new cool plugin from the Sage7 plugin system, it may depend on Jetty, but it won't actually know that Jetty is installed, so it will go ahead and install it again, without you really knowing it. At that time, it may introduce some instability. So, my recommendation is to upgrade, then then install/upgrade the plugins using the plugin system, since that way, you will be knowingly installing the plugins, instead of accidentally installing a plugin because you want to try out a Fanart pack, etc.
