Can Playon be used to store Hulu or Netflix streams?

I'm using an HD100 with the latest beta firmware along with the latest release of SageTV V7 with XP on box#1 and the latest PlayOn on box #2. All is working well with hulu, Comedy Central, netflix - thanks for the great plugin!

My question: Can I have the videos in my netflix and/or hulu que downloaded and stored ready to go or can I only watch them streaming? I thought perhaps there would be a way to configure SJQ and mediashrink to to this.

Second question: regardless of how long I pause a show using PlayOn, I am not able to fast forward correctly. Does anyone have any hints about using FF that I'm missing?

A few installation notes just FYI:

I was getting errors that the videos could not be found, but I believe that I traced this down to the Sage box not being updated with explorer 8 and the latest XP updates (PlayOn is running on a different machine with more CPU power). My assumption was that the requests for the video lists would go through the PlayOn box, but that might not be the case. Just noting this for other folks that might have Sage on one box and PlayOn on another. Once I updated everything that I could on both boxes then things worked fine.

under that I get the error message in the title. I am able to play Hulu downloads, but since upgraded to the most recent plugin and the most recent version of Playon I started getting this error. I've included the "C:\Windows\TEMP" directory as a video input directory and don't know what else to do. I've looked for some sort of parameter that's set in Playon but can't find anything. Why is it doing this? What's the point of Playon if I can only use it with Hulu?

[Update: I noticed that someone said that PlayOn told him that the internal address was wrong and should be of the form 10.0.0.x, but my addresses are of the form 10.0.1.x so I don't know why that would be a problem. Plus while Hulu works neither the FOX or Netflix do (and they did before the update). So, what's going on?]

[Update 2: I've opened a ticket with Playon. Maybe they'll have a suggestion.]
Just wanted to report that I finally got Netflix to work, but don't know for sure what I did because I did several things. I uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Flash and Silverlight a number of times, and even uninstalled and reinstalled IE8 (or at least deselected it as a Windows function). I also set the Online video directory in both the Extender and the server computer, and then reset to default. One of those things worked, finally.

Hi, I wanted to check if there was any progress made in fixing those defects I have reported for Linux install? Thank you.

Haven't had a chance to look at them yet, but they are definitely on my radar.

Nope, these videos and this plug-in is only intended for the streaming of content.

The FF/RW confusion should be sorted out in the latest beta where Sage fixed the timebar issues with progressive playback of mpeg2 content.

Is something broke with this plugin or playon right now? I’m using latest Sage beta .15 and most recent version of playon and I can’t for the life of me get anything to play. I get a blank black screen and the controls (play, pause etc) seem disabled.

If I need I will post some logs.

Let me know. Thanks!

There seems to be some Netflix issues, but Hulu's working fine for me.

Hulu User Queue

I finally got the user queue for Hulu to show, but I was wandering if the videos listed in should have the program name listed with them. Right now they only show the episode name. Ie. In the attached picture the video label Static is from "Persons Unknown" I only know this because I looked it up online in my Hulu queue. There it is listed with the details. Is there any way to have this show "Persons Unknown" above static or have a separate folder for each program.

Browse Netflix?

Is it possible to browse the various Netflix categories, or must everything be first added to your Instant Queue?
I can browse Hulu, but everytime I browse Netflix no entries are displayed.

Default Online Services menu?

I'm running the latest version of the plugin (1.3) and the latest Beta (and the most recent STV). I still get the default options under Online Services (Weather, Youtube, Google, more, etc.) No Hulu or Netflix.

From a previous post, I checked the version in my properties file, and it's
version=SageTV V7.0.15.237

Suggestions?

Is this on a client or an extender placeshifter? The extenders/placeshifters need the plugin installed on the server, and a client needs the plugin installed local on the client. I would check the plugin screen from the UI in question and make sure the plugin is installed and enabled.

Thanks,
Jeff

Don't use Enter to navigate the Main Menu, since that skips over a lot of choices. Use right arrow to activate the flyout submenus where the PlayOn options live.

That's what I'm doing. But my flyout doesn't look at all like the nice one shown in the sample video. I just get the default menu.

Then either the plugin is not installed correctly, or you're using some STV other than SageTV7.xml. Does PlayOn STVI show up as Enabled in your list of installed plugins? As noted previously, if you're running SageTV Client, it needs to be in the list of Installed Client Plugins.

One of my roommates was asking me if it was possible to get live NFL games on SageTV so we could cancel cable TV. I figured if it was, that this plugin was the way it would be done. Does anyone know if it's possible, and how I would go about doing it? I assume HD is what he wants, but he didn't specify.

Thanks,

Tony

Well, first of all, you won't get anything in HD through PlayOn. If they need HD, the only option (that I know of) where you could get all the games would be paying for the NFL Ticket package from a cable/sat provider (I don't know who offers it anymore - used to be only DirecTV?). I've never heard of any site that offers up all the NFL games, streaming on the internet, in HD.

As far as getting feeds of the games in SD, there are obviously a lot of sites out there and none of them are of the legality that they can/should be discussed here.

However, even if legal, they would still need to be fed from PlayOn, which means that someone would have to write a plugin or script for PlayOn itself, which served up those feeds in PlayOn. AFAIK, the only PlayOn plugin with content like that was "justin.tv", and that PlayOn plugin is "temporarily disabled" (with no indication of ever being reactivated) - I suspect because of questionably-legal content.

Long story short, if you want internet feeds of all the NFL games on your TV, I suggest you go another route.

P.S. You can, of course, get all of the NFL games in your area for free with an antenna and an ATSC tuner (assuming you live somewhere that you can get your local CBS and Fox stations). It's only your local/regional games and not "all of them", but it's free and it's HD. I live (luckily) in a spot where I get two cities that are different NFL team markets, and I sometimes get four completely separate games in the two Sunday afternoon slots (plus NBC's game Sunday night).

I'm just looking at the main box right now to try and figure this out (previously it worked fine on my HD100 & 200 though)

I uninstalled 1.0 and went to 1.3. Restarted the server. It does not say that it is enabled. There is no log file in \SageOnlineServiceEXEs, but I see all the support files and the subdir there. The only other plugins I have installed are df_sageutils 1.0 and Comskip Playback 2.0.5.1

I'm using SageTV7.xml

What does it say? It should say one of Enabled, Disabled, or Failed. (This is of course assuming that you're looking at the Installed Plugins list and not the Available Plugins list.)

Are you saying you do not have the UPnP Browser plugin installed? That's a required dependency of the PlayOn plugin and should have been installed automatically when you installed the PlayOn plugin.
