Thanks. I'll stop troubleshooting this until I see a new plugin. On the other hand I'd been considering moving to Win 7 64 bit for my server anyway.

I love Win7 and I think worth the upgrade, though i'd highly recommend 32-bit.

Why 32 bit? I'm running 64 on every other computer I own. I've got a total of 8GB to put in the machine now. I don't use Firewire and the only media I have is 64.

I'm ready to dump cable and just have local channels thru antenna then watch any other shows thru hulu or playon.

thanks

100% guaranteed compatibility is worth being limited to 4GB of memory to me. I know I never personally test any of my stuff on 64-bit Windows and I bet a lot of other devs are the same way.

Nope. Sometimes for show that Hulu doesn't have the agreements it needs to host/streams it just links to the shows official website, in this case lifetime. They do the same thing for TNT and CW shows. You're best bet is to post on PlayOn's content request forum and support for it.

Funny, I've never had any problems with software compatibility on my main use computer which is running Windows 7 x64. When I get the money I will upgrade my SageTV machine to the same. I'm not running FW channel changing so I don't have any compatibility limitations in that regard.

You are probably already aware of this, but the next version of Windows Home Server (which appears to be popular as a SageTV server platform) is in beta2 right now and will only be available in 64 bit. So this time next year, anyone using WHS for their SageTV server will have no choice but go to 64 bit.

Unless they stick to v1 of WHS.

Welll ... yes. But that makes as much sense as sticking to v6 of SageTV.

Evil, you are the man. I can report that the latest plugin works beatifully under Linux (CentOS 5.5 64b) connecting to PlayOn (latest) running under VMWare Server using Win XP. Awesome job!

Except that the transition from WHS V1 to WHS V2 (Vail) will likely entail:
$$$ - M$ does not typically offer free updates (though at ~$90 for the OEM version, the upgrade price MAY be pretty cheap)
MAJOR change in storage pool design might make transition dicey at best
Possibly hardware improvements - one review indicated a recommended i3 minimum, though that was mentioned for on the fly transcoding of video streams. If you are place shifting, you may want that anyway.

Just a few things that might slow the migration...

I, too, have used 64-bit on just about everything I've got. I have not had a single incompatability problem with any piece of hardware OR software. WHQL requirements for drivers require a driver to be available in 32 AND 64 bit to get ANY win7 certification. The only compat problems I can ever forsee you having would be for VERY old hardware (like the firewire changing drivers)

PlayOn for SageTV V7 and TVersity

Hi,

Can anyone help?

I just installed SageTV7, installed the playon plugin, installed TVersity Pro.

I can see it in the UPnP browser - well I see 4 entries:

Two that say <hostname> : TVersity Media Server, one with my domain name, and the other saying find more servers.

Problems is that drill down into either media server reveals no videos.

I've added content to TVersity but I cannot see it.

TVersity claims to be sharing content.

UPDATE: I can see the content listed on extenders - just not on SageTV client on the server PC

However - the videos do not play but that may be nothing to do with the plugin

Anyone know what "Device Type" setting should be chosen in TVersity?

Michael

I've never tried TVersity, i'll have to throw it on my Dev machine and take a look. My guess is that it ends in playlist files (m3u) rather than actual videos. If that's the case then it shouldn't be too difficult to parse them for the actual video link.

I'm after BBC iplayer content.

I can see it listed in online services now and can choose videos.

They don't play through and I think this is because Tversitry needs to be told a device type and will attempt to transcode to whatever format the device prefers.

The other possibly - more likely - is that this is DRM protected content and can be served by TVVersity but only to XBoxs and anything else made by Microsoft.

Videos in local folders served by tversity do seem to work.

OK, I can't get this plugin to work to save my life.

-- I installed PlayOn Server on my WHS server
-- I installed PlayOn v7 plugin in SageTV on the same WHS rig
-- I installed PlayOn v7 Client Plugin on my Client PC

Problem:
When I select an episode or video to watch, it will load into the viewing screen and the green bar will begin to move, which indicates that the video is downloading. If I scroll along the green bar using my mouse, it shows the still scenes at whatever point in the timeline I choose, so this confirms that the videos are downloading.

However, the video itself will not actually play, no matter what I do.

Any ideas?
