Plugin: Favorite Excluder (Anti-Favorites)

Uploaded a SageTV 7 port of flachbar's Favorite Excluder (Anti-Favorites). Old discussion is here.

Get to the Favorite Excluder panel at TV/Schedule Recordings/Favorite Excluder

wow............i never even heard of this one before, but i've got a great
use for it.

i have a favorite called "boston red sox" which catches all sox games on MLB extra innings.

the problem is that, since i'm near NYC, these games are blacked out when the sox play the yankees...........i could create an anti-favorite based on the
word 'yankees' for this and get rid of those blacked out recordings! superb!

not to mention the philosophical and psychological benefit of defining 'yankees' as an 'anti-favorite'

So not sure what I'm doing wrong, but Fave Excluder appears to be excluding nothing for me so far in v7. The FE log simply says "No shows marked." Whenever I turn on IR, lots of items in the exclude list start recording anyway.

Any suggestions how to troubleshoot?

Oh and I'm assuming Intelligent Suggestions (from the web interface) should reflect the exclusions as well?

thanks in advance.

Edit: Oops, looks like the "plugins/df/favorite_excluder/enabled" flag wasn't in my properties file. Duh.

It's probably marked as desktop only and you're trying to install it on an extender. That's the same reason I can't install it.

It's marked as Desktop Only because for some reason the background process doesn't work when it's not running on a desktop UI. You can set up excludes via an extender, but there needs to be a desktop UI running for the processing to work.

I actually had an issue with the sageMC version in the past, with installation from an extender, and tracked it down to a bug with the import, that would not put the code in the correct place installing from an extender, but would work when installed from a client and then copied to the server and run on an extender. I had made a fix to it and posted it in the SageMC forum a while back. Once I fixed that problem, it would install/run on any UI, extender or client. I will take a look back at my code tonight and see if I can find what it was and post back. Not sure it will fix that issue, but we can see..

Thanks,
Jeff

Uploaded a new version (2.8) which provides support for running on extenders etc.

Thanks jphipps for the work on tracking down the problems with this and fixing the dependent JAR

hi,
i'm seeing a strange behavior today.

setup:
fav#1 has keyword "boston red sox" and records all red sox games on MLB extra innings channels
fav#2 has keyword "red sox" and records all red sox games on NY local channels

to avoid recording red sox-yankees games on fav#1 channels which are blacked out locally, i created an exception to exclude games where the keyword is 'boston red sox' and also contain 'yankees'

there is a 4 game series in NY starting friday, and on friday, both fav#1 and fav#2 are scheduled to record, while on sat/sun/mon only fav#2 is scheduled.

any idea why the excluder is not catching the friday one as well?
anything i should look for?

thanks

A favorite excluder rule is tied to a specific Favorite, so if a show happens to match several favorites, and the show gets scheduled to record from the favorite that doesn't have the rule, it will record as normal and not get marked as watched/don't like. I am guessing you are hitting something like that. If you enable debug, the plugins does log alot of messages.

Thanks,
Jeff

should only match fav#1 above, and seems to be working on 1 day and not on a 2nd day........i'll try turning debug on.

well, didn't get around to turning debug on but one possible clue.

the game i wanted to exclude did in fact show a 'don't like' icon, yet the
recording was still scheduled to go ahead.

i interpret that to mean that favorite excluder did it's job but for some reason sage still scheduled it to record.

do you know how/when the 'don't like' icon is supposed to kick in and cause a favorite to not be scheduled?

If it was marked don't like, then sounds like the plugin is working. Usually once a show is set don't like or watched, the next time the scheduler wakes up it should be removed from the schedule. Usually on mine, I see the schedule change within about 5 minutes or less. I have a few rules setup as don't like, but haven't noticed if they have worked, or just not been triggered. Most all my newer rules are watched, and that is how I have been setting all of them up as for a while. I never really knew what the difference was, so i just use watched.

If you see that again, I would probably send a note in to sage to verify it isn't a bug in the beta...

Thanks,
Jeff

Marking an airing as don't like only prevents that single airing from recording, whereas marking an airing as watched will prevent ALL airings with the same external show id from recording.

EDIT: For favourites, that is. All bets are off if a recording is a manual recording - those flags are ignored for manual recordings.

Lost Definitions.

Hi All.

Today I went in to SageTV and all my definitions for this plugin were gone. Which brings up the following questions.

1) Why? did it have something to do with the recent new beta of V7?
2) How can I backup the list?
3) I kept the definitions in a separate file that I can past but pasting single lines over and over is a pain. is there a faster way to re add them all?

They are all stored in the excluder.def in the sage base directory. You can backup that file to keep a backup. You would just need to restore that file if it got lost and restart sage.

I have been upgrading as the new betas have come out and haven't seen any issues with it being removed.

Thanks,
Jeff

Ok, well, I got to give it a try :-( They all disappeared again. Thought I may have something to do with exiting SageTV so I tested that. Sure enough it was blank again (third time). Added a few, Wrote down the file size to see if it's being truncated. exiting and went back in... They were there. Darn... Thought I had it.

But anyway. It's a clean Win7-64 with the latest SageTV 7.x. This is the only extra plugin and I don't use this computer for anything else other then SageTV (ok, I am using firefox browser to do write this since the ie-64 bit has so many problems.) What can I do to help diagnose the problem?
