Question Sage Job Queue (SJQ) - What Do YOU Use It For?

I see a lot of posts about this plug-in but I'm not sure if this would be useful for me. I schedule my PC to reboot daily and I would like to make sure that no recordings are active before doing so. I think SJQ can do this for me but not exactly sure how it's done. I would also like to have a little more control over some other tasks and also email status since the server is headless.

I'm also very curious about what other people are using SJQ for that may also be useful to me.

The only thing I currently use it for is to queue up comskip to find commercials. I also just recently added the capability to call different comskip.ini files (thanks, lobosrul!), based on the channel the show was recorded on, so that I could fine tune comskip's accuracy.

I could see how that would be usefull. I'm using an HD-PVR & 2250. Can different ini files be called based on the tuner or file type (TS or MPEG)?

I used to use it to automatically detect commercials, snip them out (via video redo), and then compress a couple of late night talk shows. I'd then watch them on the way to work the next day on my phone.

It worked pretty well, but i stopped watching on the way to work, so I just use SJQ to detect commercials via comskip now.

Yes for both. Use the $.GetMediaFileEncoding{} test to determine which device was used to record a file and use the special SJQ Filename test to determine the file type (mpg vs. ts).

The next release of SJQ will also include the ability to add your own custom tests via Java code so if you're a Java coder and there's a test that SJQ is missing then you can just add your own custom tests. This feature is actually in the current 3.0.2.x snapshots, but isn't quite ready for prime time so I'd stay away from it for now, but it's coming.

Can you explain a little bit more in detail. I'm looking for a way to be able to stream movies without commercials and watch it on my cell phone. What would be the settings to make everything automated using SJQ and VideoRedo & Comskip?

Selective commercial processing is the reason I use SJQ. Without SJQ, there isn't a way to detect which channels are commercial and non-commercial. There isn't any point to processing everything, since it wastes a lot of CPU power and sometimes detects commercials where they do not exist on a non-commercial channel.
