Any one else seeing this? It seems to be happening on about half my recordings.
Well crap, it's comskip. I think it's because I started to use the new Commercial Detector plugin and my tests for .edl & .log files are now invalid. Oh Bother.

I just drag the MPG to the batch file. In the one that does not work, I get a consistent MKV file just over 100 MB but corrupted.

There are only 2 things that come to mind:
1. Current MediaShrink does not work with v4 build 600 of VRD.
2. Current MediaShrink does not work with vprj files created by the latest H.264 version of comskip.

Any thoughts? I will get you the log file of each once the former is complete. Attached is the later (attempted commercial cutting) log.
EP, When you get your server up and running, I am still having this problem. Thanks.

DTS Soundtrack Missing

Hi,

I'm new to this tool. I tried shrinking both Jurrasic Park 3 and LOTR: Fellowship of the Ring and in both cases, the DTS track did not get included. I've tried creating an MKV file with that as the only track. I also tried using DVD Shrink to only get the DTS track and then using mediashrink. Nothing seemed to work.

Any suggestions?

Thanks! Does it matter where or in what order I put any of the options?

nope. just make sure you don't put any extra spaces and pay attention to syntax with folder paths.

Where should mkv shows show up after shrinking?

Hey gang, I've not seen a response to this. Is it normal for shows run through mediashrink to disappear out of the normal recorded show views and show up in videos? This started happening about the time I switched to Sage 7.

Any thoughts?

I'm in SageTV 7 and all of the HD-PVR files I've run through MediaShrink (both through SJQ and by drag and drop) are no longer showing up in the list of recordings. I couldn't really figure out what the issue was and I was guessing it was a corrupt db. However I've now noticed that they are showing up in the video section of Sage. In the past when I converted to MKV the shows would eventually show up in the normal recordings section all with the correct info.

Could this be an issue with the fact that 7 now stores some info in files themselves?

Anyone else seen this issue?

Are you using "/inplace"? Are you having mediashrink rename the file in any way? You need to have the filename stay the same when it converts from one format to the other.

Chuck-103729.mpg ---> Chuck-103729.mkv

If the name changes at all, the recording menu won't recognize it anymore.

I’ve been playing with the different bitrates to adjust quality on my DVD rips that I’m starting to convert with mediashrink. I’m curious to know if anyone here has a profile they like and would share?

I’ve been using a test clip and running it through a battery of different options looking for really great quality, not that any of the settings have given me anything less but... I have noticed a difference when played back-to-back.

I’m more interested in quality than speed or size. At the same time, is there a point of diminishing returns on DVD rips? What profile or custom settings do you guys use? Are there any max settings not to be surpassed?

+1 here for good setting for high quality DVD conversions.

You have to do a media refresh (Scan Imported Media) after you convert. If you have autoscan on then it will show up when it is scheduled.

PS Also make sure in details customized "Automatically add converted videos to database" is set to YES

+1 for me too. I'm also interested in getting my rips hardware compliant as discussed in this thread.

Anyone?

Thanks for the answers... well it looks like I had a mix of things going on, the latest issue was that somehow I had lost the /inplace switch. Looks like now I'm getting the expected behavior.

thanks!

can anyone tell me what exactly is failing here? HandbrakeCLI does run and compress it into a scratch file, but then it all falls apart at the end for the merge:

Looks like there are no answers on this one yet. I thing I remember reading about a while ago is a script that could join all the DVD chapters together and place it in a container (.avi or .mpeg?) without any conversion. This new format would a0llow Placeshifter to play the file and the DVD would not lose any video or audio quality. I know this is not the intent of MediaShrink for we would not be shrinking any content, but it may get us closer to where we want to be with a "portable" DVD library... has anyone heard of this?

I believe that MakeMKV will work fine for that. No compression, single file builds. I'm pretty sure it works fine with placeshifter too. Can anyone confirm that? I don't currently use placeshifter.

I did give this a try and it works just like you described - thanks for the suggestion. I have not tried the command line version yet, but apparently, there is quite a bit of automation that can be performed with the tool -- I will add it to the HTPC Gems list.

With HD space being so cheap these days and with so many hardware solutions to choose from, portability is more an issue for me than space.

Looks like it processed just fine from the log, what specifically failed?

Code:
E:\M A Movies\Where the Wild Things Are (2009)_compress\Where the Wild Things Are (2009).autoEncode.title_1.mkv
