About the only thing you can do is add a lot of padding to your sporting events and a lot for shows that typically run after sporting events.

Sometimes I think people need to think about their gripes before they say anything. An EPG is just like the weekly T.V guide you get, it isn't like that suddenly changes when a game runs long. No one can get that 100%. If you were recording everything with a VCR, it isn't like it would be any better. Like everyone has said, I just always make sure to record past any sporting event, and if I am recording anything after a sporting event (like 24 tonight), I just make sure to leave padding at the end of the episode!
