R5000 support via R5000 on XP PC

Does anyone know if the the Linux version will work with the R5000 by way of:

- Running the R5000 App on a remote XP box, separate from the Sage install.
- Setting the sage.properties on the Linux SageTV box as normal with a R5000 on a windows SageTV server, but using a remote IP rather than 127.0.0.1 to point at the box where the R5000 App is running.

If the base code is the same, I believe this should work. However, before I drop money into this, I want to make sure that there isn't a gotcha that someone else already discovered.

While I've never tried it, it seems it should work just fine. I do know that R5000's do function on other PC's from the sage server, and direct just fine. The recording location has to be accessible from the R5000 computer with exactly the same path, so UNC paths are a must.
