Question Playback Schedule Live & Recorded content

Will Sage TV allow for scheduled playback of Videos at a specific time?

I am not using this for DVR purposes, I am using it to play live TV in our college campus common area but then switch to some recorded video at specific times then back to the live TV at other times.

Is sage capable of a daily switching schedule like that?

Thanks,

There's no built-in feature specifically for that, but it's certainly doable as an add-on.

Thanks what do you mean by Add-On exactly?
Is that something I can use some script / commands within the software to create?
Is there some Tool Kit that I can use to create a schedule?
Or would I need to pay a developer to do this?

You can either add this feature through a modification to the native SageTV GUI. Doing so would be called creating an STVi and you would do this using the Studio app, which is included with a licensed copy of the server and client. The other option - the way I'd do it - is to write an external interface (a web app) that provides a self contained GUI to allow you to setup schedules of what should play when, etc. This would be done in Java using the SageTV API.

Either way is a decent amount of work depending on how many features you want, etc. But with that said, it's certainly doable.

Windows Scheduled Tasks should suffice for the actual scheduling. So all you really need is a command-line tool to start playback of a specific media file or playlist. One of the existing remote API or scripting add-ons should work for that. (At least, that's the way I'd do it.)

There's already a way to start Live TV from the command line. (See the -event parameter in Appendix D of the SageTV manual.)

See the Downloads section of the forums for available add-ons.

Actually, I do like your idea better - it makes use of various parts that already exist. I guess it depends who the target audience is? So I'll correct myself and say if I were doing it for me to use then I actually like gkusnick's idea better, but if the target audience is a group of college students, some of whom may or may not be tech savvy, then I'd probably lean towards a more integrated solution where you just load a web page and set up the schedules, etc. A more point and click type of interface, if you will. But if the group of users were all tech savvy then gkusnick's sol'n is way, way, way quicker to implement.

Yes that is more what I am looking for, just a schedule which I control.

9-10am Live TV
10-11 pre recorded video about the college
11-12 Live TV..
12 -1 Video File
...ETC

Thanks!!!
