Ok, so my setup was working very good but I needed to upgrade the server to Windows 7 for hardware compatibility with a new DROBO S. Everything seemed to be working until I started to test multiple read/writes to my DROBO. I thought it was sub par as when I was recording a few HD streams and tried watching a DVD stored on the DROBO it was stuttering or flat out not playing.

Well, last night I tried watching a DVD when nothing else was going on and it was stuttering. I tried multiple DVD's and they either stuttered or the sound was mute and the video was in slow-mo. The files play fine on the server and also fine on the HD100's I have. This issue is only on the HD200's I have. I was running the latest beta firmware on the HD200's so I backed up to the most recent released version and that didn't help.

Any ideas?

further information:

AVI's, MPG's and other video files all play fine, it is just DVD's having the playback issue on the HD200's.

What happens if you swap out a 200 for a 100? Leave the exact same network cabling, etc, in place and see what happens.

No reason I can think of why a 200 would struggle when a 100 wouldn't. I can only guess that it's something else in the "chain" other than the media extender.

I have heard of some iffyness with gigabit switches and the HD200s. I don't have the issue but have heard of it happening. Like Matt said, look at the cabling and try swapping units to narrow down the issue.

Ok, all tests still show it as something with the HD200's. My last test was to use the HD200 in standalone mode. while it was scanning the library, which is large enough, it was able to play the DVD's perfectly, just like the HD100's. As soon as I try and play them in extender mode is when I start having the issues again. For the life of me I can not figure out why the 100s are fine and the 200s both are choppy(only in extender mode).

Have you tried deleting the properties files for the HD200's and seeing if that makes a difference?

They're in the SageTV\Clients folder

Look for the ones with the mac address of the HD200's and rename them, or move them to another folder (for safe keeping), and let Sage create new ones.

Nope, I did not try it, but just did, made no change

Settings in detailed setup on the server shouldn't make any difference for the extenders, right? It's just boggles my mind why the 100's work perfect.

Make sure the version of firmware on your HD200 and your sageTV software version are compatible (bad choice of words?).

Sometimes they come out with firmware updates and must be used with a certain version of software. If not you will have hickups, studders and blah.

Now, I don't know how to go about seeing if they are compatible but maybe look at the release notes. or post here and maybe someone will know or contact support.

Resurrecting this thread since I just formatted my PVR, installed Win7 Pro and drivers needed for capture devices and SageTV(7, but this still happened in 6, so not a 7 issue).

DVD's still unplayable on HD200's, skipping way to much. However, they play fine on server and the HD100's I have.
