5.1 Output from SDTV

So here goes, I made the switch over to the Media Extender to move my SageTV HTPC to a more convenient place and avoid the extra noise. Mission accomplished!

Now comes my challenge!

When using my SageTV HTPC spdif output to my amplifier and ac3filter I was able to "upconvert" the regular stereo sound from my capture device to my stereo and get a much fuller sound. Now that I am using the Media Extender I can't perform this. It works fine for 5.1 AC3/DTS sources but most of what I watch is recorded from SDTV and does not have 5.1 surround.

Any ideas of options? Upconvert options from the Media Extender? Re-encode recorded shows to 5.1 sound?

Your SSP should have something like Dolby Pro Logic II to perform matrix surround.
