Apple Quicktime files (MOV)

Hi all,

We recently got a new camera that records in .mov file format. We can see the video fine but we hear no audio in SageTV. I installed Quicktime today and I can now play the .mov file fine with quicktime, but how do I get SageTV to play it and to hear audio as well? Searched on the forums but didn't have any luck.

Thanks!

you could try installing quicktime alternative, I seem to remember it worked pretty good in sage. Aside from that, do you have any info on the formats in the .MOV files the camera creates? If its just a matter of supporting a different audio codec, then you could try installing ffdshow.

I can try Quicktime alternative. I have another camera's movies and they are in .avi format. They've always played fine. The new camera is a Canon SD980 IS and it records in HD.

I do have ffdshow installed already...

As I said, you need to find out what is IN the .MOV file (what is the video and audio format) before you can figure out what you need to do to get it to play.

You can try enabling the 'Uncompressed' codec in ffdshow's audio configuration, and choose ffdshow as the sage decoder and see if that works. other than that, I'm not sure. PCM audio shouldnt' even NEED a decoder, as it should be able to play direct to the renderer.

I set the 'Uncompressed' codec in ffdshow's audio configuration to "all supported" and I could hear audio finally, but the video was very choppy because it was spiking the CPU to 100%. I changed SageTV's MPEG2 Audio Decoder back to default after changing it to ffdshow...
