Anyone tried Java 1.6.0_18 yet?

How did it go?

The release notes have some interesting things listed:

Windows 7 support is now available

Class loading optimizations for faster startup (see Bug Fixes section)

Application Startup Improvements

• Better startup of applications and applets on systems where D3D is used. Savings are up to 100-200ms depending on application and the system. (Refer to 6891435.)
• Revised support for pre-verification of FX runtime. Improves warm start of typical FX applications by up to 15 percent. (Refer to 6894899.)
• Concurrent download of jars for webstart applications and applets.
• Number of other startup improvements for UI applications and applets. (Refer to 6753173, 6896857, 6892138, 6868503, 6874881, 6874336, 6891293 and 6895250.)

Runtime Performance Improvements for UI Applications

• Improved performance of applications using translucent windows. (Refer to 6794764.)
• Better performance and smaller memory consumption by text rasterizer. (Refer to 6891557 and 6891551.)
• Faster processing of PNG images. (Refer to 6549882.)

I just went to a new server machine and I am updated to the most current java, at least that is to say I don't have any more prompts on the tray that a new version is available. Everything works good with the exception that when I watch shows on the actual server if I switch around too fast I get the ring of death and the timeline stalls and I have to end task on sage. But I don't think that's related to the java version. Clients including an extender work beautiful. Quad core is a beautiful thing

I don't believe it will show up on auto update yet. You have to manually grab it here: http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp

The updater goes by what's the current version available on Java.com, not Java.sun.com, and on the official site it still is version 17. They usually don't update java.com until the new version has been out a couple of weeks, probably to make sure that normal consumers don't get a hold of versions with bad bugs or compatibility issues.

I just update my server and clients. Kicked the the tires a bit and nothing jumped out as broken. Seems OK thus far
