Other hardware for use with SageTV?

I really think the desktop hardware methods are going to take off in 2010. We've already seen TVs do this natively with being able to recieve internet content directly to the TV.

These new devices seems key to keeping SageTV alive. But only if Sage moves to something that is compatible with them. The closed system that Sage has will eventually stifle the system in the future, while the more open systems will flourish. Anything that has multiple vendors and standards behind it will almost always win.

These are all a view of things to come this year with a slimmed down version. Even the blu-ray players can play NetFlix and Hulu.

These devices need to be able to "see" Sage as a valid source and bring Sage software, skins, device support, etc into the forefront. Anyone else think that this closed Sage system will eventually disapprear?

Boxee does allow add-on "Apps", so a SageTV "app" for Boxee could be a way of combining the two.

I don't think any of them have that capability, regardless of what Sage does, they're just not that extensible. They'd need something like either BD-J or Tru2Way's capability to load (nearly) full-blown apps/interfaces, I'm not so sure they do.

Open systems are great for simple things, but are often limiting when it comes to complex things like Sage.

Eventually is a long time. If we go all the way out to "eventually", well "eventually" I think Sage's biggest upcoming problem is the death of linear TV.

Personally I think Sage's best bet is to start positioning itself as someone who has a destination platform, (like a BD player, Sayabas, or Boxee) that other people want to get "apps" onto.

Although this new DLNA "guidlines" do sound interesting:
"Unlike most current DLNA implementations, the new clients can now display the DLNA server's user interface"

If this is what you're getting at theguru, then I think that would be a great addition to Sage (the advance DLNA server capability).
