iR Config Question
Hello Everyone,
This is my first post to these forums so please excuse any errors I may have made in this first posting. I recently purchased a Hauppauge HD-PVR (model 1212 I believe) and am currently running a Demo of SageTV on my media center PC with plans to purchase it assuming I can work out a couple small bugs. The biggest problem I'm currently having is that SageTV will change channels on my BellExpressVu 6100 (I believe the equivalent of the Dish Networks 811) however it will not turn the power on to the receiver when I schedule a recording. I've spent a fair amount of time going through the manuals for both SageTV and the Hauppauge irBlaster and as far as I can tell if the channels are changing via SageTV the ir is configured properly (when going through the config to find the proper code the Blaster Config app does turn the receiver on and off). Does SageTV have the ability to turn the receiver on and off or do I just have to leave the receiver on permanently? Ideally I’d like the receiver to turn on and off as I am a little sanative to the energy costs associated with leaving the receiver on 24x7 Thanks in advance, Adam |

Just an fyi, all DISH and bell stbs are pretty much the same, the unit still draws power even when its turned off. Or stanby by mode. Because the stb still has to power the LNBs and switches etc.. to receiver nightly updates for the CAM (card) and guide info. So the amount of power being wasted from being left on is very small if any at all. All it does is turn off the video and audio output signal.
Just leave it on and for get about it. The new 6131 always go into standby mode and now have a screen saver running when you turn it off

Leave it on 24/7. You also might have to schedule the STB to tune to a channel if it updates every night and goes to sleep after. I know most of the Dish boxes have this problem now - going to sleep after being updated each night. By having the STB tune a specific channel 30 to 60 minutes after the box updates will allow the box to be ready when Sage tries to change the channel. Otherwise the box might miss the first channel number if it is "lost" by making the box come out of standby mode. Others get around this problem bysending a "select" button IR code before every channel change.
