Inconsistant Video Playback
I have only had the sage system for a month or so and so I am still extremely new to the whole world. I am in the process of backing up my DVD library to my HDD. So far I have done about 40 movies and of those I have two that will not play back through the HD200 extender. They were all backed up the same way using the same tool and from the same DVD drive. None of them are Blu-Ray. Both the movies that are giving me trouble can be played back directed on my PC from the HDD backup. Both can also be played from the DVD Drive through my HD200 when adding that drive to the Import Directory in the UI although they seem a little bit choppy and not a crisp as when I play them back directly on the PC. Very strange!
The experience on the extender when I try to play either of these is a black screen, with not title bars or progress bar at the bottom. I see the activity light flashing on the HD200 but nothing ever happens on the screen. At first I was thinking codec, but with play back on the PC and from the DVD Drive it has me stumped. The two movies at issue are "The Ugly Truth" & "Twilight"... Please no comment about the titles.... They are my wife's movies.... That is my story and I'm sticking to it! |

I use makemkv to convert the DVD to an .mkv file, than put it to the media server.
I found that makemkv is ok for DVD’s, but it does have some issues with Luray’s. Just redo the once you do have problems with. Use makemkv and try to avoid using your computer for anything else till the process is done. Good luck |

Thank you Cansat! That seems to work.
Now I have another question based on using the MKV. After converting to the mkv and rescanning, all the different mkv files show up in my Video directory where with the other movies only the video_ts file shows up and not all the others. Makes for cleaner cover art in my library per movie. The mkv are in a directory structure just like all the video_ts files. Is it possible to get the mkv files to appear as a single icon in the Video directory or am i just stuck with what it is. Thank you again! |

Sorry but English is not my first language.
So not quite sure what the problem is. can you draw me a picture?lol to you have now both file like (The_Island.ts & The_Island.mkv in the same Dir.)? When you go to your extender. /Media Center/Video then select Titles not DVDs/BDs nor Playlist Nor Folder. Hightlight Titles, and all your movies should show up as a single picture/file. I did use the .ts format for my first 2 week. (I did have playback /FF/REV/SKIP FW problem ) so I did redo/convert them all again. From original DVD to .mkv file. That solved all of my problems. It's a different story with BluRay's. |
