The future: New Comcast STB, RIP CableCard
I've heard about a couple of recent developments, but don't follow this stuff closely enough to know what to make of it.
First a guy I know who does installations for Comcast here in Portland told me there's a new DVR STB that shows up in his truck from time to time, it not only has a bigger hard drive but he thinks all of the ports on the back (USB, 1394, etc.) are active. Second, I read on Engadget a few weeks ago that Cable Card is being phased out for something else. Anyone know more about these developments and if/how they might change the way we use SageTV? The recent castration of unencrypted Clear QAM on anything over channel 32 has been a big blow to me. |

Sage doesn't support CableCard anyway.

Good ridance is what I say. I hope CableLabs learned their lesson with all the restrictions. Not that it was going to work with Sage anyway...

Exactly, which is why its demise might be promising for us. Maybe.
