USB-UIRT and Girder

I currently use SageTV Client on my PC. I use an X-card to decode and send to my VCR's "Line" channel, from there to my TV.. I'd like to be able to control SageTV via remote (the one that came with my PVR-250 would be great). I don't need Sage to control my TV, rather I just need it to run Sage, so I don't have to keep getting up and going to the PC.. pressing Ctrl-G, Ctrl-F, Ctrl-G every time I want to skip ahead..

Can you, with USB-UIRT and Girder get this type of functionality? Is it hard to setup?

Is anybody currently doing this?

Thanks a lot, in advance, for your ideas, comments and suggestions.

-Robert

I'm assuming that since it is your client, you don't already have an encoder in that machine, or else you would probably have remote capability... right?

I'm not usb-uirt/girder expert, but you could add some IR receiver (usb-uirt) and then either control SageTV directly from it, or use Girder to control more than just SageTV. Others may know of another IR receiver you could use.

Correct, my system does not have an encoder on the machine I use to run sageclient on.. USB-IRT doesn't require girder then? Cool.. I don't mind manually starting up the software and other equipment.. I just don't like getting off my comfortable sofa to change what I am watching or to pause/rewind/etc..

See the 3rd Party Support page for Frey's very short comment about using usb-uirt directly. I'm quite sure the forums and/or others have more comments on it. (Like I said: I'm no expert on the usb-uirt... I've just read the comments here.)

Of course, you'll still need a remote...

Yes, you can do that and people are doing that and more.

Sorry to do this to you, but you should see what the search button has to say about Girder. I'd be happy to try to answer any more specific questions, but the general stuff has definitely been asked and answered on this forum.
