Can you play wtv files in Sage?

My Sage system has been down for a few days so I have been making recordings using my backup machine which is running Win7 MC. The Recorded TV files are in .WTV format - is there a way to play these files in Sage either directly or after a conversion process?

Aren't those files DRM'd from Windows Media Center? Maybe one of babgavant tools can convert them. I think you can right-click on the file and convert them to .drms in Win 7. That may help.

I am not sure - I thought that it depends on the security restrictions of the original file - dvr-ms could have DRM but you can play those files in Sage or convert using VideoReDo, etc. These recordings are all from an analog tuner - a PVR-150 so assuming that there was no CGMS-A coding on the recording there should be no DRM, unless I am misunderstanding the DRM in Win7 MC.

Me neither. Then just right click and convert them to dvrms. Then you should be able to view them in Sage.

D'oh - that was simple. I (obviously) didn't know that you can do that.

I have DRM-free .WTV files and would love native playback support via SageTV... any chance of getting this down the road?

I think its a great suggestion. I'd submit a beta ticket and ask for that as a feature.

Consider it done! (And thanks mucho for the link!)

Except that link is auto-redirected to http://www.sagetv.com/bugs.html -- is that what I want?

Yes. It will get your request on a list. Hopefully they'll see fit to throw it in during the betas. No guarantees, but it sure sounds like something they could do easily.

Here's what I've heard back from support after providing them with a DRM-free WTV file sample:

Quote:
In the next version you should then be able to play these files on Windows
if you add the .wtv extension as an import path. We can't add support for
transcoding, placeshifting or extender playback since we don't support the
WTV file format natively. [...] There are tools for converting .wtv files to .dvr-ms files, and we do support .dvr-ms files.
So, mostly good news, I guess

I was a little surprised to discover that after the dvr-ms file has been accessed by SageTV it disappears from the directory. Apparently it's a little like Cinderella's Coach.

Sage won't delete files. Something else is going on.
