Yeah, now that that has gotten the ok, it seems much more plausible that Apple would let something like this go through.

Is there an API available for SageTV?
Or can anyone quickly shed some light on how to stream/control SageTV remotely? I am an iPhone developer who just started using SageTV at home and I cannot believe there is no iPhone app for this available yet so I might be interested in developing one... |

EyeTV iPhone app features 3G streaming
Watch, record, and enjoy live TV on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, via a 3G or Wi-Fi connection. At last, you don‘t have to leave all your great TV shows at home; the EyeTV app puts the power of award-winning EyeTV in the palm of your hand. The EyeTV app accesses EyeTV running on your Mac at home to deliver these great features to your Apple device http://www.elgato.com/elgato/na/main...TV-app.en.html I use sage but if they can do it, i'm sure sage can... |

Found an iTouch app called AirVideo that comes with a Windows server. Got it running on my WSH box concurrent w/Sage. Seems to do a very nice job of rendering my Sage recordings on the iTouch. If somebody could partner with the AirTV guys and present a Sage "Recordings" window, I could imagine a Sage mini-client for iPhone/iTouch.

SageTV makes money off of the licenses to their software, both server and client. So I doubt there is some open API on which you can develop a SageTV client of your own, iPhone or otherwise, unless the licensing scheme is built into the API.

There is a SageTV Placeshifter. What does Placeshifter look like on the iPhone/iPad? Does it work?

Update: I just installed Hauppauge wintv 7.2. Kinda disappointed. I can stream live video channels but don't see a option for streaming recorded content. Last edited by oddjob; 05-24-2010 at 06:38 PM. |

No, SageTV's placeshifter is written in Java so it won't run on iDevices as currently written.

Bummer. Then I would imagine we would have to wait for SageTV to provide non-java/mobile-enabled functionality in Placeshifter or a native iPhone client application. Doesn't look like a 3rd party has the APIs/access needed to build such a thing.
Or we could all go out and buy Windows Mobile phones (not!). |

Don't ever assume it's not possible as a SageTV developed solution - probably not as a 3rd party app unless it's a HTML5-centric webpage. It's a matter of how many people would be interested and how much the guys at SageTV are interested in doing it. I think Mobile connectivity is going to be VERY important to SageTV and other HPTC solutions going forward so ignoring iDevices, Android and even Windows Mobile devices would be a bad idea.
Will it happen? Who knows, but I wouldn't ever assume impossible. |
