Simple Sage Server/Client/Service question (I hope)
Computer A has sage running as a service (and sage itself)
If I want to add Computer B running sage client alone, do I need to enable the sage server on Computer A? Or is it automatically enabled since sage is running as a service? Thanks! rwc |

So as long as Sage is run as a service, I do not need to enable the 'Sage Server' setting in the Sage(UI) Detailed Setup screen?

Sorry, that would be yes, I think you do need to enable Server in the Detailed setup. The local copy of SageTV (on the server) while much like SageClient interacts slightly differently than SageClient does.

My understanding was that the actual SageTV instance (the thing that shows up as a little SageTV icon when sleeping, aka "pseudoclient") is still required to be running on the server machine, and that the service only did the recordings....but my understanding was wrong (as you can see below, the service is all that is required).

The service mode also functions as server... my server spends most of the time in the service mode. That's because on my setup, even if Sage is sleeping in the tray, it's always logging stuff, preventing my system from going into standby. Btw, I don't remember having to activate "server" the first time I ran service mode.

Just to confirm, you don't need the psedoclient running to use the server, that's part of the service app.
Re: activating the service, I think you have to but I don't know for sure, I've done enough combinations of fresh installs and installs with restored properties files I'm not exactly sure anymore. |

I'm not entirely sure if I'm just repeating things from above, but...
If you want to connect to the server with _any_ client, you have to enable the "SageTV Server" in Detailed Setup - Advanced. I believe this is true regardless of whether the client is on the same PC or on one of your networked PCs. When running in service mode, the pseudo-client UI automatically connects to the service whether or not the server is enabled in Detailed Setup. If this were not the case, you wouldn't be able to use the UI if you mistakenly disabled the server. (The service acts as the server.) - Andy
