Help, no video or audio in Win7!

I've been using SageTV for about 4 years, but haven't really done any tweaking or updating for at least 2. A couple months ago I upgraded my PC and got Win7 and decided it was time to take the plunge into HD. I purchased the HD-PVR + SageTV bundle and the HD200 extender.

I installed everything and things seem to mostly work.... I haven't noticed any problems with the extender side of things -- I can record and watch with no problems. The problem is that I don't get any video or audio when I try to watch on my PC. My mp3s are also silent. I have some home-movie stuff that is in an mp4 format, and those play fine. Videos from google or youtube play fine.

I've been working on this issue for a few days. I tried the "update 10" modifications and managed to get video working on the recorded TV using the Microsoft DTV-DVD decoder, but still no audio.

So I reinstalled SageTV and updated to the latest STV. I noticed this time I now have the Arcsoft decoder as an option. When I try that I get video (but very stuttery) and still no audio.

I'm at a loss what to try next. I'm tempted to reinstall the Update 10 stuff since that at least got me some decent video. But what about audio? Any ideas?

Btw... I'm running Win7 x64, if that matters.

Thanks,
Mike

Update

I did another re-install of SageTV, this time first uninstalling, then deleting the SageTV directory before re-installing.

Video seems to work now using the Arcsoft codecs. Still no audio for my mp3s or on the recorded television. Audio from online sources works fine, and video that I transcode from h.264 to mp4 plays fine.

Unregister the Arcsoft audio decoder. Choose the AC3filter decoder in Sage.

Thanks for you reply. It's been a few years since I messed with codecs and such and I have even less experience on Win7. How do I deregister a codec?

I've tried selecting the AC3filter as my MPEG2 Audio Decoder Filter but it didn't seem to make any difference.

Use this: Radlight Filter Manager and unregister the Arcsoft audio decoder. Only then will you start to get audio.

That looks like a handy utility (though your link appears to go to a cybersquatter).

I wasn't able to find anything that was obviously an ArcSoft Audio Decoder. I've attached my list of codecs.

Fixed.

It sounded like you had installed Arcsoft Total Media and that would have the audio decoder which has caused issues before. So I don't know if you installed a codec pack or what to end up with the Arcsoft video decoder nut not the rest of it.

AC3 filter, which comes with Sage should work fine. Maybe try a reinstall of Sage. Make sure you save your wiz.din

I did install the Arcsoft total media extreme package that came with the HD-PVR -- Sage recommended that all the software that comes with the hardware be installed so that the hardware can be checked out prior to installing sage.

I'm going to try uninstalling all that extra stuff and doing another clean reinstall of sage and see if that makes a difference. My main concern is that the Arcsoft decoder was what was at least giving me good video and I won't have that anymore. Btw, the Arcsoft stuff plays the videos just fine, as does windows media player.

Update

I went to the control panel and uninstalled everything - SageTV, WinTV, Arcsoft, etc. Then I deleted all their folders. Then I rebooted (never hurts, right?).

Then I used the filter manager program and unregistered any codecs for which files were now missing (there was only one Arcsoft one).

Then I reinstalled SageTV, and skipped the Hauppauge stuff, so basically I now have SageTV with no tuners. Audio works on most of my audio files but not all (my librivox audio books... not a big deal). But I get a playback exception if I try to play one of the H.264 recordings I had from before.

So I loaded the latest STV... still no good. Then I installed update 10 from the sticky in the beta forum. That gets me very nice video using the MS DTV-DVD Video Decoder, but no audio using any of the 3 available audio decoders.

I give up. At least the media extender seems to work fine, and that's the important part anyway.
