Recorded TV showing in "My Videos" Again!

Hey guys,

This is my 2nd post (if memory serves) about this problem. I once had a problem with my recorded tv shows showing up in the "uncategorized" folder of "my videos". So I deleted the wiz.bin file and basically rebuilt everything from scratch. I installed the latest version of sagetv, grabbed the latest version of sageMC and the web server and setup everything all over again.

Now just 2 or so months later tv shows are showing up again in the my videos folder. Any idea how to fix this or why this happens?

Are you running Vista or Windows 7 by any chance? This can happen under those OSes when you switch from using UAC to not using UAC or from running Sage as a service to not running Sage as a service. Sage puts recordings in "My Videos" when it can't find the metadata for them (which is stored in Wiz.bin) and changing those settings affects where Sage is directed by the OS to look for its config files.

I have made no changes to the service or to UAC since I loaded this machine. What do you recommend short of deleting Wiz.bin again and doing it all over from scratch again.

1. Just wait if that showid come on the EPG again it may well put the video back.

2. Turn off write caching on your HDDs

3. Get an UPS unit that can tell the server to shutdown in the event of a power failure.

It's basically the only way to get it back in your library.

I would hardly call it huge, I have 1.5GB available to cache and can't tell a difference. The big issue is if you don't shutdown cleanly your chit doesn't get corrupted.

Make sure it's operating correctly, shutdown Sage and pull the plug make sure everything shuts down cleanly.

You could install BMI and use it's GUI to manually add them back I guess. Other than that, sounds like your chit is gettin' corrupted due to improper shutdowns.

OK it's happening again and it's driving me nuts. I've turned off the write cache on all of my server drives except for OS. I've tried deleting my Wiz.bin file and starting everything from scratch. I've even uninstalled SageTV, deleted the SageTV folder from Program files, and installed everything from scratch.

At this point what else can I do. My recorded TV still shows up in Unassigned under My Videos. No matter how many times I rescan the import folders and apply the meta-data info...it still shows all of my recorded tv in Unassigned. Any thoughts?

Is wiz.bin on the OS drive? If so thats what you want write caching disabled on.

I am guessing the only way to change this is to change where SageTV is installed?

My biggest question is why does this happen in the first place. Recorded TV is clearly not my videos. I have them on the same drive but different folders. So for example

D:\MKV = DVD Collection
D:\PVR = Recorded TV
D:\MP3 = Music Collection
D:\Photos = Photo Collection

Everytime I delete the Wiz.bin, I re-import each of the XML via the web interface. We have about 500 tv shows to it takes a while. But no matter what I do it keeps showing the recorded TV (shows like mickey mouse club house and ace of cakes) under My videos.....it's frustrating!

Once a show is in imported videos there's not that many magical occurrences that are going to change that. Use BMI/BMT and investigate the feature that will set the 'tv recording' flag.
