Adding a channel and getting EPG data
How do I get EPG data for a channel that zap2it doesn't have in my lineup?
I just got a 2250 tuner to get QAM locals. However, I found out that I can get SPEED over QAM and would like to get the EPG data to work for it. I went to zap2it and found the ID for SPEED was 16011. I went into sage to add the channel, entered the ID and other information, and it doesn't appear to be working. I can't remap it like I did the other channels because SPEED isn't in the analog lineup. |

I am having a very difficult time with this also. I have read the manual and have read many many threads. What I am trying to do is get all of the OTA stations that I have available into SageTV and all the EPG data for those stations (around the Toronto and Buffalo areas). I have used Buffalo Digital Service as a means of getting most of the stations to list in Sage. I don't understand what Sage is doing however. This is hard to explain, but when I use the software that came with my tuner (Haup 950Q USB) to scan for channels it gets all the channels available (21), but when I use SageTV and do a scan, it only lists some of the channels that WinTv would find. Is it only matching up the channels it can match up with the EPG service for that area (Buffalo Digital Service)? I am strictly using OTA. When I tried a Hamilton cable service, SageTV only showed 4 of the 21 stations available. This may be where I have to remap the stations to tune properly, but I don't know how to do this properly.
Right now I have some channels that have good EPG data and some that may have only a few hours of data, and some that has no data. The ones that have little or no data have ID # less than 10,000 (so the data is not from Zap2it). All the data that I want is available on the Zap2it web site so IMO I should be able to get it into the guide. Is it possible to just enter the ID # into the sagetv software to get the correct information into the guide? I tried to do this last night and I don't see a place to enter the ID #. Am I supposed to do a scan with the original software and edit the channels in that software first? I don't even know if this is possible. I have read something about .scn files. I am very confused, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Brent |

Success at last! I finally have EPG data from Zap2it for all of my OTA channels. I could not find a way of editing the channels that I had scanned in by using Buffalo as my location, so I added the channels manually. I used OTA Buffalo as my location because it included most of the channels I receive and even some of the Toronto and Hamilton Ontario stations. Below is how I did it.
- From the Channel Setup Menu, I went to Add Channel to Lineup. - Entered the station name from the Zap2it guide. If the name was already in my lineup, I added a 2 at the end ei. CHCH-DT2 - Entered the ID # (a number that is in the 10,000 range). Hover your mouse over the station name or icon on the Zap2it web page and look at the bottom of your screen, you will see something like this:http://affiliate.zap2it.com/tvlistin...6405&channel=8, in this case, the station ID is 16405. - Entered the logical (guide) Channel number. - Entered the Physical (Tuning) channel number. Note: the logical and physical channel numbers I got from previous channel scans. The only thing I was missing really was the correct ID numbers. I did add other channels by scanning other OTA locations near my area like Toronto and Hamilton and writing down the physical channel numbers. Sometimes I guessed what the physical channel was. If the logical number was 5-1 for an example, the physical channel may look like 5-5-1. Eventually you may find it (For OTA anyway). Starting on page 170 of the manual is a good place to start when adding a channel. What I did, got the job done, but I am not sure if it was the best way of doing it. Is there a way of just changing the ID number when remapping a channel? Hope this helps anybody else. Last edited by Owen Brent; 12-04-2009 at 08:05 AM. |

That is what I tried to do. I entered the channel name just like it was found on zap2it, I entered the channel ID from zap2it, and I entered the physical channel number that I got from doing the scan. The EPG remained blank.
I ended up using a different channel lineup. There was time warner analog and time warner digital. The digital lineup is all the channels you get with a STB plus the analog channels. I then used the remap option to map the physical QAM channel to the SPEED on the digital lineup and then gave it a logical number that fit where I wanted it. The EPG data showed up instantly. |

Thanks for the post. Cannot change STATION ID
Thanks for the post. This has helped me.
Creating a new channel name was the only thing that worked for me. Could not figure out how to update / correct the station id that Sage had remembered. Comcast keeps moving the QAM channels around, so rescanning the HDHR is a frequent necessary evil lately. Somehow, when I picked up the Hallmark Movie channel, it invented the Station ID upon the updated channel scan and I could not figure out how to correct it. Creating an HM2 channel name (in place of HM) allowed me to add the channel with the correct Station ID - for a channel that has not been added by ZAP2IT yet. Maybe if and when the channel is added by Zap2It, it will all correct itself.
