Remote Control - My Head is Spinning
Hi everyone - I've been sucessful in setting up my HTPC, and now I am preparing to tweak it up. My first roadblock is the remote control situation. I've read so many remote control threads out here my head is spinning, and I can't seem to get the info I need.
I have the Hauppauge silver remote and I am looking to use the remote to control Sage not only in TV mode, but when playing back DVD's. I attempted to link a Hauppague button with the DVD function, and it complained about unlinking the button from another function. Is Sage capable of knowing what mode it's in, and sharing buttons accordingly? Or do I have to figure out some new way of programming? I'd like to keep my additional investments to a minimum, so cost-conscious options are preferred! |

Re: Remote Control - My Head is Spinning
Each of the SageTV commands must have its own keystroke assigned to it, so if you try to assign a used-keystroke to a new command, that key's previous assignment will be removed. Essentially, if you are trying to add new commands to your remote, you will either need to remove some of its previous functions (do you need the number buttons on your remote?) or you will need a new remote with more buttons. If you replace your remote, you can either continue to use the Hauppauge IR receiver or get something like the usb-uirt and/or Girder.
You've probably already seen these threads, but just in case... - Andy |

I'll chime in here since I just tackled most of this.
I bought a One4All 6131 universal remote (this package, in fact) from this store. I followed the instructions in the links Andy provided to program the guy and get it working. I can now control the TV, Sage and Sage's DVD functions, plus WinDVD and it even has a volume/mute pass-thru so that volume is still controlled by my receiver without any additional futzing around. I'm quite happy with it. Note, I'm not saying that this is the BEST one - just that it works, and I'm happy with it. |

I'll say it... for the price the 6131 is the best I've found!! I'm using mine with a UIRT, and am VERY happy with it!!
