will a video card fix this?

I have an old Dell inspiron E521 with and amd sempron 3400+ that I want to use as a client. My sage server has a Hauppauge hvr-1600 in it. The computer plays the analog content okay but any digital recording stutters significantly. The computer has some expansion slots so I was wondering if a video card with hardware acceleration would fix the problem and if so what is a good choice?

A modern video card will take the load off the cpu and play back the video smoothly. What Kind of slot do you have for a Video card.

PCI, AGP, PCI Express

PCIe is good. You can probably use the card you buy in you next machine as well. Something like this will work fine and Newegg has it on sale for 31.99 right now with free shipping. Less if you do rebates. ATI card with HDMI should be fine all around for what you want. The cheap ones will do HD fine you only need more if you will be gaming on it.

If you less than 1Gb of RAM you may want to that while you have it open.
