when building a new system, what happens to the registration file?
I've found plenty of info here regarding recording dirs, but what happens to the serial / registration info? I have the original numbers from the ages-old email. Is the secret to make sure that all drive names and drive letters the same as in the previous install (if i want to find all of my recordings).
Also, I noticed that the new Sage install dir is "SageTV", not "Frey Technologies", which is what it was when I purchased Sage. Should I install to the old directory name and THEN drag the saved wiz.bin/properties files into that dir, or does it matter what the install directory is named? and yes, if there's a faq that I missed then please simply paste it if you know it and I will read the rest - no need for anyone to type liong answers. thanks Last edited by tvmaster2; 10-21-2009 at 06:38 PM. |

There is no way to retrieve your license info from an existing installation. It's up to you to keep track of that email that contains the info. If you've really lost it, try emailing sales@sagetv.com to see if they have a record of it.
The default installation directory changed several years ago when Frey Technologies became SageTV LLC. If you're doing a new install, you might as well install to the new directory name. When building a new system, you should not copy your old .properties file over, since it contains information specific to your old hardware and installation path. Install and configure Sage on the new system, then shut Sage down and drop in your old Wiz.bin. There's a link to the FAQ at the top of every forum page.

I agree that it's best to install to a current setup - start fresh - that was my plan. I believe I may have finally found the FAQ hidden on this site to do a re-build, so I'll give it a try, pull over my saved recordings and hope everything is found. Thanks for the Wiz.bin info. |
