PlayON Online Feed Customizations

The main thread is getting bogged down a bit in discussion of adding your own PlayOn Feeds outside of the one I maintain (Hulu/Netflix), so I thought i'd start a new thread for that topic.

Edit: Removed old .properties files, my latest feeds will be automatically downloaded by the plug-in but you can also view them at this link

For reference, here's a list of the feeds I maintain:
Code:
CustomOnlineVideoLinks_UPnP2Podcast_FoodNetwork.properties
CustomOnlineVideoLinks_UPnP2Podcast_Hulu.properties
CustomOnlineVideoLinks_UPnP2Podcast_Netflix.properties
CustomOnlineVideoLinks_UPnP2Podcast_aRecent.properties
CustomOnlineVideoLinks_UPnP2Podcast_zExtras.properties
CustomOnlineVideoLinks_UPnP2Podcast_zzPlayONSettings.properties
CustomOnlineVideoUIText_UPnP2Podcast_FoodNetwork.properties
CustomOnlineVideoUIText_UPnP2Podcast_Hulu.properties
CustomOnlineVideoUIText_UPnP2Podcast_Netflix.properties
CustomOnlineVideoUIText_UPnP2Podcast_aRecent.properties
CustomOnlineVideoUIText_UPnP2Podcast_zExtras.properties
CustomOnlineVideoUIText_UPnP2Podcast_zzPlayONSettings.properties
Netflix if pretty much finalized and Hulu gets updated about once a week.

okay I need a little help on adding the custum links. I have the following but the only thing I've managed to do is add the new link for SyFy under Online Services but when I open it it is empty. This what I have so far:

CustomOnlineVideoLinks.properties
#SyFy TV Shows
xFeedPodcastCustom/SyFyStargateAtlantis=xPodcastSyFyTVShows;"PlayOn:SyFy:Stargate Atlantis:+2"
xFeedPodcastCustom/SyFyBattlestarGalactica=xPodcastSyFyTVShows;"PlayOn:SyFy:Battlestar Galactica:+2"

CustomOnlineVideoUIText.properties
#SyFy

Category/SyFyStargateAtlantis/ThumbURL=http://thetvdb.com/banners/_cache/fanart/original/70851-23.jpg
Category/SyFyStargateAtlantis/LongName=Stargate Atlantis
Category/SyFyStargateAtlantis/ShortName=Stargate Atlantis

Category/SyFyBattlestarGalactica/ThumbURL=http://thetvdb.com/banners/_cache/fanart/original/70851-23.jpg
Category/SyFyBattlestarGalactica/LongName=Battlestar Galactica
Category/SyFyBattlestarGalactica/ShortName=Battlestar Galactica

What am I doing wrong?? Thanks.

Right now, i'm working on some improvements for PlayOn's built in content (Hulu, Netflix, CBS, etc.) but i'm not even looking at the plug-ins. If people come up with something nice please be sure to share it with the rest of the class.

To get things started, here's a working draft of my auto-generated files that contain *all* of Hulu's TV shows Clearly, there's some trimming down that needs to be done manually, so feel free to take a pass at it
I like it in this case more content is good. Now to pare it down.

I'm still confused, even after reading the post Andy stickied, about how to search out and find feeds to add to these files. I used the upnp inspector to go through Playon's plugins, but I'm not sure how to take that info and translate it to EP's plugin. Is this a dumb route. I'm trying, as a test case, to add PBS to the list so that I can watch Julia Childs (the WAF would go high for that one).

Did you even find a PBS feed? I couldn't but I was able to find a Food Network feed no problem.

Easiest way is to take EP's modified content files included with the STV download ( not his new huge files above ) then use the upnp inspector to browse your playon server, compare the folder structure to EP's modded files and copy/paste edit to your own.

There is a plugin for playon, so I'm assuming there is a feed. Of course, I have no idea what I'm doing, so that really isn't any sort of authority to go on.

I successfully installed the PBS plugin but there were no feeds that I could see and I've installed 2 others with no problem. I'm just saying that I don't know if the plugin is working.

AMAZING plugin. thanks so much for doing this. ITs awesome and my WAF has gone through the roof.

can you explain what the difference is between:

1) making modifications to the properties files as you described on this thread
2) adding plugins to the playon server?

Thanks,
Pix64

PiX64,

You need to have the properties set up for each feed (or "sub-feed") from each internet source. Simply adding a new property to the CBS feed (that is standard on Playon) gave me access to all Star Trek TOS episodes.

Adding a plugin to Playon gives you additional feeds. For example FoodNetwork does not come standard with Playon but there is a plugin for that. Now, once you add a plugin you will need to mofidy the properties files to give you access to its content through Sage

FYI, Below are my settings for HGTV and FoodNetwork. I think that this will give most of the available content from the sources:

That helps me out greatly. Thank you.

I had downloaded the SpikeTV plugin hoping that some content would be included from a couple of shows I wanted to see. The plugin said it got it's content straight from Spike's website but how do you know what shows are covered by the plugin?

You can put the xml information inside a "code" box. Simply start the section with [code] and end the section with a /code surrounded by [].

Here is the code:

Excellent ldavis. Thanks so much.

can you also explain to me how i find the new feeds. So for example if i wanted to add my own "channel" for something on hulu or some other online source where do i find the information needed to create a link in EPs tool?

thanks in advance.

Well,

I have a PS3 so I can see the what is actually available. I would think that any UPnP device (including the HD200 in stand-alone mode) would be able to show you exactly the "folder" structure needed to set up the custom feeds. I have not seen any other way to get at this information

use the UPNP inspector which is linked from the first post of the initial playon thread.

Edit: Here and then install. To run it, do this
Quote:
When you run this, simply right click on playon and select browse and it will open up a new window that allows you to navigate through playon to find the right folders (so to speak).

I'm starting to play around with the plugins. I found some kids stuff that I wanted to add, such as the Sprout files shown below. However, is there any way to (somewhat easily) covert these listings to feeds?

I could do "PlayOn:Cartoons:Sprout:+3", but I'd get them all in the same place. Any way to harvest and export the names and get them into something I can use?

(Do I just have to beg Sage for subcategories?)

Alot of the same question being asked over and over, take the time to read this thread and EP's other one, the upnp inspector will tell you EXACTLY what files/shows your new plugin has plus follow the folder structure to create you own modified links.

I'm not sure if this was directed at me or not, but my question isn't about how to format links, but rather how to "export" the leafs such that I can create links without just retyping each one.

No Matt it wasnt, I noticed after reading my reply that it could be taken that way, sorry.

I was merely trying to point out to others that really all the info you need to do this is already posted between the two threads and the sticky.
