HD200 not seeing Hauppage 850

I have an HD200 hooked to a HP Mediasmart server running Sage. I struggled through an installation of a Homerun and all that is working fine. Wanting to get analog as well but with no internal card option on the HP, I purchased a Hauppage 850 usb tv tuner. The driver install seemed to go fine, but when I try to add the new source into Sage, it claims it is a 950.
Hoping it would still work ok, I continued the source setup, but when I select the input source of tv tuner on the next screen, I get an error message of "playback error in playback. Details: Sage.PlaybackException" This seems to lock up the HD200 forcing a shutdown.
I have done a standalone install of the 850 onto my laptop to confirm no problems with the 850. It works fine. Also done a remove and reinstall of the drivers onto the server with reboots in between all. No change.

Should the usb tuner be plugged into the server? or the back of the HD200? or does it matter?

Any suggestions?

Just an addition. I posted this same question on missing remote and was told that the tuner certainly needed to be plugged into the mediasmart whs.

I then did a test this afternoon of installing Sage on my laptop with the 850 tuner plugged in there. I shut down the mediasmart server and had the HD200 use the laptop Sage as it's server. It still thought the tuner was a 950 but it seemed to use it fine. It streamed tv to it etc.

I think this narrows everything up to an install problem on the mediasmart whs. I couldn't seem to get the whs to do the full hauppage install, so I just installed the drivers. I thought that might be fine since I'm using Sage as the tv delivery not Wintv.

Think I need to get the full Hauppage installed somehow?

The 'full Hauppauge install' always seems to cause problems, so I always install just drivers. As long as it works I wouldn't worry about what name Sage shows.

I seem to be gaining. I got the drivers all installed onto the Mediasmart ok and the usb analog tuner plugged into the back.
In an effort to narrow up where the problem might be, I downloaded the Sage client onto my laptop. I ran through the Sage add new source and it all went ok. That was a major step forward. Ran a channel scan and able to pull channels from the MSS to the laptop, worked fine. Shut down Sage client on the laptop and back to the HD200 and the tv and it worked as well. Cool, thought I was done.

But then I found I can't get about half the channels it found on the scan. I can get 2-41 on the laptop or the hd200 but all i get is "no signal" on 42-71. I subscribe to these and the channel scan seems to find them fine. But not one plays. What am I missing?
