Stuttering in latest SageTV release (6.6.2) - 2 channels only!
Hey guys
I'm running the latest version of sageTV (latest full release - 6.6.2) via a headless server (AMD X2 4400, 7 HDDs, two Hauppage tuners - hvr-200 and nova-t dual PCIe). This is being served up to a single HD100 hooked up to a LCD TV via HDMI. The problem that I've had since sagetv v6.5.9 is that two channels (SBS and ABC in Australia) consistently stutter and pixelate on any sageTV version, including the betas. What happens is that the show plays normally for about a minute or so and then starts stuttering, pixelating, etc and becomes unwatchable. I've checked the source file, recorded on the sageTV server and it has that stuttering so I know its not a HD100 problem. The same problems occur on the sageTV PC client. The really frustrating thing is that I really want to use sagetv 6.6.2 as it has a few performance and stability improvements over 6.5.9, but I always get stuttering on just these two channels. All other channels appear fine. I've tried new drivers, old drivers, using just one of the tuner cards, etc - all to no avail. If anyone can assist me where to start diagnosing or how to fix this issue, it would be great. Note that sagetv 6.5.9 works fine on these two channels - no stutter. thanks in advnace. |

From what I am reading, it sounds like you have a source problem. I am not sure how your channels work in Australia, but here (Washington DC) we have different channels coming from towers in different directions. If you don't have a good enough Antenna, your in a difficult geographic location, or your antenna is skewed the wrong way just slightly, you can loose enough signal on one of the stations to make it do that. I personally have a channel, NBC, which does that during certain types of weather, but not enough to warrant me going up to the attic to mess with it. It sounds like your problem is much more annoying, but similar in nature.
[EDIT] So maybe I should offer some tips also...... I would first try looking up the signal origin of the stations you are having problems with, and then trying to get your antenna to point directly at the source(s). For the time being, ignore the possiblity of knocking your good stations out of whack. If you can get a good signal doing that, then start looking into ways to get that signal and the others to your antenna, or antennas. This could be solved many ways, but usually a tweak to the position will do wonders. Hope this helps.

Thanks Mike.
The problem is that this only happens is sage 6.5.10 and onwards. it is also very random and always happens on the same shows (i.e. the intro to a particular show on channel SBS is always garbled, however the next show records just fine on the same channel). |
