HD Theater and DVD playback

I'm just guessing here, but from what I understand, the HD200 doesn't play DVD's (if you have a DVD drive in your Sage server), but instead CAN play VOB files from a folder directory?

The HD200 can play ripped DVDs (vobs and such in a folder) from your server.

It can also play streamed DVDs from your server as long as the DVD doesn't have DRM on it or the DVD is "tricked" into thinking it doesn't have DRM with AnyDVD.

Same answer for Blu-Rays as well.

Great, that's what I thought. But it absolutely won't fire up the DVD player/burner and spin a disc?

If you add your DVD drive as an import directory and have something running to decrypt the disk, yes you can play DVDs right out of the drive.

But no, there is no "Play DVD" option, and it can't play encrypted DVDs.

Well, that assumes you're running in extender mode (in which case your post is in the wrong forum ). In standalone mode, that's a good question, the extender may see a directly-attached DVD drive, but even if it does, it would only play unencrypted DVDs (home made or the rare retail disc without CSS).

I've literally just hooked up the HD200, so I'm not yet sure if I'm running in extender or standalone mode. When I figure that out, I'll let ya know. Thanks for the info. PS - where do i find info on standalone / extender mode - the Sage manual?
