Overheating Video Card = Microstutter?
I'm trying to track down an intermittent problem with microstutter. Would a video card that's running too hot stutter?
TIA - Jeff |

If it's too hot, it'll shut down your machine completely. With or without a stop error.

No, everything is running. I'm just getting microstutters at times, and I can't seem to figure out when or why. Might a hot, but not overheated, video card be the cause?

What content are you planing and what video card do you have?

It's an ATI 4350 based card. The stutter is happening both in H.264 and I think (although I haven't played around much), with plain-old MPEG2 files as well.
I've tested some H.264 recordings using the Arcsoft player and I get the exact same microstutter. That's why I suspect hw and/or driver issues, not Sage issues. - Jeff |

Hmm, that card shouldn't be having any issues, especially with HD MPEG-2. I'd say your problem is more likely with Sage's video decoder/renderer config than a hardware problem.
Can you post what decoder and renderer you're using (found in Sage's detailed settings) and also what all you options are? |

Yes, but the problem also appears outside of sage, so it's not likely a Sage issue, no?
FWIW, my settings are: Renderer: VMR9 (needed for HW acceleration) MPEG2 Video Decoder Filter: Arcsoft MPEG4 Playback: DirectShow H.264 Video Decoder Filter: Arcsoft Dscaler: disabled Audio Render: DirectSound MPEG2 Audio Decoder Filter: Sage's - Jeff |

Yes. SP2, I believe.

In case anyone with similar problems comes across this thread, I removed the top of my PC case to get more air circulating on the video card, and lo and behold, the microstutters stopped. The case had been very hot to the touch before.
