256mb vs 512mb in dedicated box?

Simple question, is there any performance advantage in have 512mb of ram in a dedicated box which does nothing else on Sage with 3 tuners? Will 256mb work the same for this setup? Wondering am I wasting the extra memory in that box.

I have a 2 tuner box. I decided to go with 256 and go up if need be. I rarely ever go over 128meg usage. I think you will be fine with 256.

256MB should be fine. Will you also be viewing Sage TV on this box or strictly a server with no watching? As cheap as memory is (but don't get cheap memory) I would probably get 512MB in case I find another use for the mb further on down the road. I don't think you would see a big (if any) performance difference as far as Sage goes. OS might load quicker and any other services, apps in system tray may load sooner too. But I leave mine up 7/24 so that doesn't really come into play either.

Well mine is 24/7 box and nothing else is done on it, completely dedicated box. It seems max memory usage is 211mb. I presume when Sage records to disk it streams, would 3 tuners recording at the same time affect memory usage?

I would say if all you were doing is recording a watching shows on this box, like I do, just buy 256 and be done with it.

Save that money and put it toward a USBUIRT or something.

I have my box completely setup and running with 512mb of memory but I am wondering can I swap that 512mb out of that box and into another replacing it with 256mb and have no performance drop with Sage. As I said, the box does nothing else except SageTV.

I think you will be just fine with 256. Sage doesn't use a lot of RAM normally.
