HD PVR Playback Error

I am having trouble installing a HD PVR. I installed the drivers. I then attempted to install the "ArcSoft Total Media Extreme" software, but it fails to install, even though it says it finished installing.

Update: I was able to install The "ArcSoft Total Media Extreme" by running the setup.exe in the TME folder, the setup.exe in the root of the CD fails to install. I am able to see the video, hear the sound, and record with the TME software, but not with SageTV when adding the HD PVR.

I then tried to add the HD PVR as a video device, and test it with composite video and audio in. I get a playback error when attempting to watch live TV or click on "color calibration" in the video setup menu. I am using SageTV version 6.4.8.184.

My Hauppauge PVR-350 and HDHomeRun video inputs work fine. The only problem is with the new HD PVR. Here is the specific error:

There was a Playback Error in playback. Details: sage.PlaybackException: ERROR (-4,0x80040217(: There was a problem rendering the video portion of the content for playback.

Has anyone seen this type of error before?

Dave

I do not recall when it changed but you may need to upgrade to the latest version to set the h.264 codec. Go into the Detailed Setup and look under Video \Audio. You should see H.264 Video Decoder Filter. If you have Arcsoft installed correctly it should have and option for "Archsoft Video Decoder".

After making the change go into the tuner setup and try it again.

With older versions you had to do this with a properties file edit but in the latest versions it is in the GUI.

Thanks for the response, I will try that when I get home today.

I did try adding the HD PVR with the HD 200 instead of directly on the computer. I was able to see the video and hear the sound during setup. However, the video and sound were streaming very poorly. Maybe using USB to stream video into the compute is a poor method to use. I was surprised that the interface between the HD PVR and the computer is USB instead of Eithernet.

I tested some recording with the HD PVR, and it did not seem to record anything. The HD PVR seems to work with the Hauppauge TME software.

I upgraded from 6.4.8.184 and set the H.264 video decoder filter to Arcsoft. That setting allowed the video to display on my computer monitor. The SageTV GUI on both the computer and HD-200 is a lot faster with version 6.6.1. I haven't updated the firmware yet on the HD-200 because sometimes firmware upgrades can go bad. I don't know if there is a way to revert back to a working firmware level on the HD-200 if the new firmware level does not work.

If you load a beta level firmware you can always go back to the production level by NOT entering the beta code before checking for new firmware. But I think the latest code from the last beta is now the production code. You can always follow the FAQ for getting back to a certain firmware.
